NIMBYism is rationalism. It is irrational to think you can/should have policies in your system to serve people from a separate system. It presumes that you can establish a metric for right and wrong that applies to others, which is rea

I've been following Madeline Sumption on Twitter for a while. I think she has a political motivation and I don't consider the Migration Observatory to be a valid source. Sorry.

The author: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Huemer Seems like a very nice argument when isolated away from reality. Reality of mass immigration from Muslim countries into the UK has been a lot more people in th

Yeah, I hear ya and don't disagree totally. I wonder if excluding (norming?) Those extremes is always a bad thing. I hate the Alt Right and the Ctrl Left pretty equally.

I absolutely love how the left becomes a fan of states rights on immigration, but pretends it isn't a challenge to Roe v Wade.

Meh. Not really. In parliamentary systems, you might have a lot of parties in the mix, but they caucus and forms blocs. Same happens here, just upstream through primaries. Democrats have centrists and progressives and a fringe of anarcho-so

I think you have a valid point. I do, however, think sanctuary cities (which are so fuzzily defined legally...) create an incentive for illegal immigration. It sends a message that one need only get through the border to make it permanent.

International borders fall under federal jurisdiction, so I don't think your point is as strong as you think, but I'll play this game... So, you support states rights? Tell me why abortion is a federal issue then?

The flip side of that sentiment is calling fascism on anyone who thinks sanctuary cities are bullshit. The lunacy is bipartisan.

I hear a lot of people in my area (West burbs of Chicago) joke about building the wall up to cut off California. Sure, they're joking, but I don't think the average citizen outside CA gives a damn about the state as a tax revenue

Have you found large institutions to be more responsible and efficient? I have not. I have found the opposite. Large orgs always have stories like this. Management and accountability are hard to scale and the problem is as true for the priv

I found it wrong when it happened before Trump. I continue to find it wrong. This is one of the main reasons I like small government. They tend to do a shitty job.

And as an Australian resident, you are used to difficult bureaucracies, amirite? As an American with Australian family, they always tell me how much easier dealing with the G is here when they visit and drive their massive rented RV around.

You are defining rational behavior as ignoring variance and accepting expectation as a gauranteed outcome for a trial. I don't want to be a jerk, but you are wrong to a phenomenal degree.
