What you say is true, but let’s not forget that Ken Thompson did the first version of unix in 3 weeks while his wife had gone to California with their child to visit relatives, so deep focus is important too. It seems, in those days, people

Nope, that does work as expected, unless a filesort is required, good point.

In mysql, the db will continue reading even if the limit condition has been met, and then anything beyond the limit will be discarded before returning the result.

I'm not sure I understand the part about set theory. If anything, a valid use of DISTINCT is if you want the result to be (closer to) a set, as otherwise (to your point, depending on the data model) you may get a bag instead. In fact,

This is basically what seems to have prompted Bradbury to write The Pedestrian: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pedestrian There’s a great audio version (I think from the BBC) too.

What I remember from school (late 90s) is that Babbage was inspired by Jacquard’s punched cards to use then in his Engine, and either this, or Jacquard directly, inspired the same in Hollerith. I don’t recall it as there being a direct line

I spent some weekends and after-work evenings tidying up some ambient and electronic recordings both new and old, and today I finally decided to publish it on bandcamp: https://semicolony.bandcamp.com/ It’s all downloadable

I’m against censorship, well, except for stuff that would already be illegal. But as to the potential harm, I recommend “Homemade” by Sebadoh. Example verse: “There’s still pictures in my mind. I’ve been addicted all this time. It taught m

Just to offer a different perspective, I use Cursor at work and, coming from emacs (which I still use) with copilot completions only when I request them with a shortcut, Cursor’s behavior drives me crazy.

As late as in 2000 it was still common to refer to electronic music to what this article uses the term for, and what you refer to as “dance music” instead. See this great compilation (with a lovely booklet that’s more of a mini book) for ex

I see what you mean now, I’m afraid I misunderstood you. I never thought about male contraceptives other than condoms or a vasectomy, so I guess I’m part of the reason for the lack of research. That said, I suspect a contributing factor may

My wife asked herself for her IUD, and it made a huge positive difference for her. Her goal was just pain relief; we don’t need contraceptives since I got a vasectomy after our second baby. Our daughter also asked for contraceptives on her
