The problem with this first approach is that you can get arbitrary results just be reordering the series. Also, the formula you give for the geometric series only works for |x|<1.

In mathematics, the way to the answer is essential. If you are doing /anything/ wrong on your way, your result is void. It may not be wrong, but nothing is gained.

Yes, the only problem I have encountered was some version of pyyaml that couldn't deal with \t characters (which are valid in JSON but not YAML 1.1, 1.2 fixed this).

Wikipedia gives this as an "alternative etymology", the primary one still being that it was being played by kicking a ball around, analogous to handball.

Nope, exactly. The measure of the interval [0, 1] excluding any countable subset (for example all rational numbers) is still exactly 1, that's usually what mathematicians mean by "almost every", here "almost every real n

Real numbers are defined as a particular extension of the rational numbers, which 1/3 is.

It does have something to do with the electroweak force, the Higgs mechanism allows gauge bosons (like the Z_0, W_+ and W_-) to have mass.

Well, the user in this case is the client who ordered the code. If you become the user, you have all the rights listed in the (A/L/)GPL. I think that's more to the point of Free Software, not to liberate all code that has eve

Why doesn't it mean what the word normally means? "Software Freedom" was coined by Stallman and the FSF ("free software" might have been around before). It's also not uncommon to use the term freedom as "f

Python C extensions are (supposed to be) compiled with the same compiler as the Python interpreter you are building against was, which in case of the official python.org release is MSVC, see https://wiki.python.org/moin/

I didn't use cave, but I remember using Paludis instead of Portage on Gentoo about 15 years ago, and it was really really fast at the actual package management tasks. The builds themselves take time of course, and especially for smalle

The article explains that "children" is a fancified form of "childer" which matches the German "Kinder". The dative has nothing to do with this.

This sounds very odd to me. Most wind turbines built today with a capacity of over a few hundred kW are not synchronised to the grid frequency. They run at whatever speed they can run at with the current wind speed, which is converted to DC

As others have said, if nothing is done about the energy excess, it goes into an increase of the frequency. In Germany, there are 3 different steps to handle this (I guess it's pretty much the same in other countries too). 1. The prima

One could implement a kernel that forwards calls to other kernels depending on a prefix and explicit push-and-pull functions to move variables around. That last part would require an extension of the protocol or a parallel channel, but the

If the expression is supposed to be the definition and not just a derived equality, at least Mathematicians (and some Physicists) would use := instead, just as Niklaus Wirth tried to establish with Pascal.

This doesn't use threading, just a thread-local variable (i.e. a variable that points to different memory locations for each thread) to make the whole thing threadsafe.
