I needed a binary, stable format to pass large dataframes efficiently to our JS frontend as well as to other Python processes. The builtin msgpack converter in Pandas was very pandas-centric in that it was basically just a msgpack represent

1) Conda helps with that quite a bit, Pandas is not a much heavier dependency than NumPy itself. 2) Depends a bit on your background, but to me this is not really unexpected. Integers don't have a well-defined "missing" value

That's not the point, destructuring works fine on classes implementing `__iter__`: class A: def __iter__(self): return iter(range(3)) for x, y, z in [A(), A(), A()]: print(x, y, z) Prints

Your first point is incorrect, lambda works with the first syntax for both python 2 and 3. What /has/ changed, however, is the implicit destructuring: l = lambda (a, b): a + b l((1, 2)) I suspect there are very good r

What is different in Erlang is that strings are a bit messed up in that they are linked lists of numbers. What you are suggesting (constructing the actual string in-place) works fine in Erlang, too, but has a bit of a funky syntax: we
