2 questions: - Isn't it common courtesy to cite important tools being used for data processing? Why is this a problem? - Wikipedia says the tool is under GPLv3, so from a bare licence perspective you should be safe to use it for whatev

Wednesday is called "Mittwoch" in German, which is a shortened form of "middle of the week". Only works if Sunday is the first day of the week, though the common convention is also having the week start on Monday. Confus

read_sql_query queries an actual database, this library allows you to query from the dataframes in your current locals as if they where database tables. my_df = pd.DataFrame(...) queried_df = pysqldf("select * from my_df wher

Minor nitpick, but it's "gnuplot" (a pun on the Newplot), the program is not affiliated with GNU in any way. It's not even licensed under the GPL.

It's inconsistent though, as iterating over a dataframe like for c in df: will return the column labels. I expect `len(obj)` to return the same as `len([i for i in obj])`.

"recursion" is calling a function from itself. You usually want this to terminate at some point, though, and thus will have some kind of branching, so it's not "en abyme".

Pickle is used in Python's multiprocessing library to communicate with other Python processes over a pipe. Seems sensible to me.

As long as you strip outputs and prompt numbers, diffing works quite well. I've been using this commit hook for quite a while: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25178118/opening-ipython-...

Jupyter runs on the command line. It started out as a fancy Python REPL replacement (IPython), the notebook part has been a relatively new development.

AFAIK it's not the compression date but instead the last modified date stored in the filesystem metadata. It's likely there such that `gzip file; gunzip file.gz` keeps the mtime information intact.

Most wind turbines can be regulated very fast in negative direction, i.e. you can change the angle that the blades have to the wind to reduce the force. This is needed for the turbine to survive storms but it can also be (and is) also used

The GPS signal carries information about the GPS vs. UTC drift in a 1 byte field. As said, my guess is that they just wanted to maximise the use of this field by setting it to 0 instead of 19 at the beginning.

Regarding your first point: Is GPS time defined for dates before 1980? If not it does not have leap seconds in the sense that it skips or inserts seconds at specific times. It just has a constant offset to TAI, I guess to maximise the numbe

SciPy and Pandas use Cython, so if that can ever be made runnable semi-directly in PyPy, those two are dealt with. Only NumPy uses the CPython API directly but this is being worked on as NumPyPy (see http://morepypy.blogspot.de&#
