Apparently this link will show up in your search results, but only when "it finds you" can you login and start the coding challenges.

I agree! I wonder what will happen when memory and IO are essentially the same speed. Will we still need complex cache stores?

I haven't seen any benchmarks comparing the two, but Node first used libev, and then the team created libuv out of a need to support Windows, because libev is unix only. Actually, it's all in this about page: http://nik

Actually, everything was pretty simple: Use libev since it's faster than libevent, use Node's http parser because it's fast. Then allow each thread in the pool to run its own event loop. This pretty much sums up my university

I think when you're in that line of business, your entire infrastructure could be taken from you at any moment. That could make knowing your financials kind of difficult. Edit: Why the downvotes?

It would be cool to see markdown support, but I totally understand that any addition to the formatting spec is risky, because any new change means older posts could be awkwardly rendered. On that historical HN note, it would be great if som

I think this is so true. Not to mention that a lot of the hackers on the site loathe sites that require javascript and will often prevent any script from executing, so the login modal might be useless to a large percentage of the HN communi

There's a company working on this: https://grasswire.com/ . Their goal is to democratize the news by adding things like fact checks to tweets. I know the guys running it and I've seen previews for their next releas

I just realized that Jetbrains changed their student plans! If you're a student, you can now automatically get a license for all their software for free! I think I had to pay $99 for a student license of IDEA 13, so this is great news!

I've been using PyCharm for a while now and it's fantastic. I love that it will make dependency assumptions so I can cmd+click on a function and go its implementation. That was a killer feature while working with Django.

Yup. For now that's all it takes. I wasn't really concerned preventing other people from editing a profile up until now. I liked how HN Notify allows anyone to opt-in or opt-out, so I copied that style. I figured HN would prefer i

I thought UDP is to TCP as C++ is to Java with regards to memory management. Meaning, TCP will do whatever it can to ensure packet integrity, while UDP pretty much leaves packet integrity up to you. Is that correct? If so, then regardless o
