this is not a python compiler. it's a subset of python compiler (this exercise has been done already quite a few times)

So maybe to clarify few things. This is just sensationalism - numba is not a python compiler. It's a compiler of some restricted subset of python into LLVM. I don't think the subset is very well defined by now, but I would expect it to be a

it seriously does not matter. the pixel sizes are hardcoded so it'll look unreadable on any small screen, your particular OS does not matter. my resolution is 1440x900 if this helps.

I'm seriously sick with people complaining that the software they gave away for free didn't make them any money. Maybe we need a better business model for people who make other people's life better, but hey, at the point you make the decisi

While you're at it - on 13'' screen and 2 year old machine your site is absolutely unreadable and unusable. There is a little bit of text in the middle and vast swaths of space with strange blurred colors occupying most of my visible space.

We don't have a direct access to the funding buttons (it would require quite a bit of work, probably doable though), so we update it every 2 weeks (roughly) when it lands on the bank account. That way we don't have bounced payments to deal

A bit on topic, this is my tweet about that: https://twitter.com/fijall/status/230597001056768000 That said, not all PyPy devs are working on STM, so there is definitely work going in other directions. I should probably write a blog post

PyPy's focus so far has been on the JIT. The interpreter part is mostly an equivalent of a brain-dead C implementation. Overall it does not matter for long running programs (like web servers), but the warmup times are kind of horrible. That

For what is worth Libya owned a trusted CA (maybe still does), which means that MITM would happily work, because they can transfer all the certs to their own authority. I don't personally see how this is more secure than my self-signed cert

I didn't say it does not contain a hello world example. However it really misses (or at least misses in some obvious place, like the first link) "a gentle introduction to haxe". For example if you go to python.org -> documentation ->

The documentation looks absolutely horrible. I can find in many ways how it can compile to multiple targets, but no easy way to find out how it actually looks like. Any "hello world" example that does not contain language reference? Maybe "

This sort of article makes me loose faith in hackernews. It's 166 points by now and getting more, yet when you look at the code it's obviously fake. It does not do anything. Why people who cannot confirm or deny such claims upvote this? You

I tried to pinpoint down some problems, but let me elaborate on this. As far as Parrot goes, it's not done despite years of development and it has lots and lots of problems, some with the approach, some with the actual implementation. But t

It's very different. LLVM is a portable assembler. PyPy is a compiler generation toolchain. Using LLVM means you don't have to write your assembler backend, however, there is much more to the Just in Time compiler than that. LLVM is good at

For dynamic variable access you do what PyPy (the python interpreter) does for globals. You indeed fall back to a dict, but you keep a dict of cells, that is indexes in the list, not the dict of variables. That way you have extra indirect

It's very different to use the PyPy toolchain that is to run on JVM or .NET. It does not reuse any bit of the Python VM, but uses RPython as the implementation language. You don't share bytecode, you don't share objectmodel. You share the g

Note that this requires quite some work to actually benefit PHP, because the rest of the interpreter is missing (as well as say web server integration). However, once this is done, JIT improvements will benefit both.
