It's maybe worth pointing out that this is the first release that has a full ARM JIT support.

I would like to second that with a simple fact that people who are good with monetizing and people who are good with science are often (but not always) a distinct set of people.

Did you ever try finding funding for an ambitious project? Companies generally laugh at you, unless you can achieve something within 3 months (which is a typical time scale) or already work there and do other jobs. Speaking from experience

They were optimistic at the beginning too (even with C extensions). How would it fill your usecase in a way that pypy does not?

The title is very misleading - it should be called "How fast can we make CPython", because it talks about compatibility with PyObject* and stuff. While I would argue that we can't make interpreted Python particularly fast, th

We have this optimization in PyPy (so yes, Python can do it). There is even a paper [0]. LuaJIT is a great source of inspiration but Python is just a huge language, which makes it much harder. http://www.maths.lth.se/matemat

I think you underestimate the complexity of Python language. Note that PyPy is not the only project that did that - remember psyco? There are reasons why after 3 years Armin said "I give up, let's do PyPy". It's not the

GIL removal is easy. The hard part is that locking all the structures in order to avoid interpreter crashes (which are not acceptable in a language like python) is hard. It's not impossible though, jython did that. CPython additionally has

Er. This proof is seriously flawed, starting with "what is Perl"? How do we define a language that's not parseable? Does it only mean that you can't know what the program will do until you run it? That's true for Ruby, Python, pretty much e

So, whether or not a piracy is a crime really does depend on both mindset and jurisdiction. US is one of the few places where you can make rules however you like and people will obey it, however little sense it makes. The laws in africa for

There is a major difference. The Ukrainian government does not do anything about the piracy. In theory it might be because gov is in piracy's pocket, but most likely they just don't care. It requires inaction from them, which is usually not

Cython isn't able to compile all Python. It definitely can compile a large subset of Python, but certainly not all of it. I don't actually know how fast the compiled Cython is - in my (very limited) experience, if you don't provide types, i

Python is a vast language. It's very hard to know upfront what sort of patterns people use - if you don't talk to us, don't post stuff on the bug tracker, don't do anything - it's your own fault. PyPy is known to speed up real world code to

The problem with memory usage is lack of benchmarks. For most of the benchmarks that are on the page it'll be only the interpreter size. We're working on a solution (and on memory usage) though.
