i'm impressed with your belief in google. You can't just do it. It's a giant institution with rules and hiring process is formal and can't be done by the team.

Given that this is in the news - the Python Software Foundation issued a grant to rewrite this software. While it's kind of good looking, the code is a mess and the original maintainer no longer available to help. The goal is to have a kick

That's a bullshit argument and I don't think it was raised. You can always run JIT on a subset of architectures (ARM, x86, x86_64, PPC and MIPS really cover a lot ) and run interpreter on others. The argument was always "easier to maintain

He got me to the point where he divided number of packages by number of years (hell, I did not have internet in 1991, so why would there be packages???)

I would like to amend it with "all users are required to sign a paper that says they won't bother 3rd party developers before completely understanding the arch way". Seriously, just because you think your software is used in the way X, it d

Are you by chance using s += x to create strings? If so, stop. Anyway, my crystal ball is in service right now, you should really give us a chance to look at it.

Yes, tons and tons of confused people popped in on all python IRC channels. Arch devs seem to think their users know everything, but there is enough evidence that not every single arch user reads all the details.

if you do that, ASM.js has definitely wrong level of interfacing with DOM and you're screwed.

You might need desire. What I (and millions of ordinary people) need when it comes to cars is a cost-effective solution, which means resale value, parts, cost, petrol etc. Desire comes last.

you mean "the best known researcher employed by a university as a professor"? Because a lot of VM researchers don't have a PhD.

I'm sorry, but just stop living in your bubble and you'll be fine. There are great people out there doing great things, using technology, they just don't happen to be prominently featured on the site that takes "what can be delivered in two

We did quite a lot of benchmarks about various programs (like Python interpreter written in RPython compiled to C#) and the performance was pretty bad. There were various issues, some avoidable some unavoidable, like Exceptions being very v

Geez, this post is full of complete nonsense and FUD when it comes to programming languages and their performance characteristics. I won't comment about the language design (I kind of like C#, but it's beyond the point), but the facts: * C#

I'm sure it's important for the demo scene (because the binary size is the only factor), but this is largely irrelevant for modern architectures when performance is considered.

you need 12 5 star rides to make up for 1 one star and get above 4.7. If your average is say 4.8 (you get 4 or 3 stars every now and then because people assume it's "average"), when you get a 1 star review, you need 37 "normal" rides to mak

Whether HUD makes or does not make any sense is really up to discussion, I like pieces of the HUD and I think it can be great for my laptop (12''). That's a bit irrelevant though, since Unity does not work, has tons of bugs and you can't ch

I claim you're wrong. I've been working on a range of JIT compilers, but the PyPy is the biggest one. The problem is not "how hard the semantics are", but "how much of the semantics you need to support", especially that interaction between

I know, Mike is really good. However, this sort of approach does not scale toward larger teams hence the limits of what sort of language you can potentially implement. Lua is much much simpler than Javascript, which is again simpler than Py

We're in no shortage of production code. The problems are quite trivial - two people doing the same think might have different stuff in mind (so you cannot have a heuristic that works for everyone) and the fact that we're running on a shoes

PyPy speedups over CPython in numeric code are in 50-200x ballpark, it really depends what you do. We can certainly do better, but it's within 2x of optimized C for most of it (unless there is a very good vectorization going on). For stuff

Whether RPython is a good or a bad language is a subjective fact and it should not be related to the fact whether I wrote it or not right? It's good for what it does (writing VMs), or at least better than writing them in C++ including JIT b
