We have lots of valid arguments for everything...but where do we think this is going to end? All living peacefully with AI as the ultimate deterrent? Nukes had to be used to become a deterrent. Now we have something no one can claim to be a

You would have very fast landing pages, which you still do today. But the issue is SaaS apps are soul crushingly slow, but google does not care about that because google cannot login.

It would be interesting if after the massive layoffs, this was actually Google's greatest risk, and maybe firing a single CEO would be a better decision than laying off 20% staff?

Looks like this will not work if you need to change your password (eg. site gets breached). This is one of the most common use cases in password auth.

This comment made me realize how much of an echo chamber HN is (myself included). We seem to call ourselves "tech enthusiasts", but it's only for some tech, and we wonder how other tech survives because we do not comprehend t

My issue with all this is the dishonesty. Yes, tips are ok, but don’t force me to pay them. Let me decide. Also, don’t lie, add a 25%-30% gratuity, charge me, then give me the check with additional tip along with all the same social pressur

I don't think FAANG is trying to just stay in business. My point is not that they should not be laying off, is that they should not have hired this bloat in the first place, and responsibility should come from that. If you need to fire

This has always been true, in good or bad economies. But There was a culture of throwing money away with insane valuations and insane financing rounds. It always seemed to me that all those things that these startups were doing at $X rounds

Problem with this is false advertising. Often, you buy a tool because its website says can do A and B, and do does the sales rep. Then you deploy it and realize it really only does C, and if you squint at it hard enough you can kinda see A

Because when it happened the first time, I was too busy having a vacation that I did not want to bother myself dealing with Uber, and just thought, must be a mistake, I'll sort it out soon. Didn't get to travel again until now.

Here’s what confuses me about this. The entire SV culture is have an idea, build a prototype, demo it (whether it works or is just a UI doesn’t not matter because you want to validate the product). Then get capital and go all in on making i

Current polymail is expensive, the $13/month plan for 2 accounts is a joke. With the $30/month plan, it's as expensive as superhuman, so unless you're going the enterprise way, forget it. I mean, most developer tools cos

My solution for this is to use something like a Wise debit card and just keep a zero balance on it at all times, except when you actually want to renew a bill. I love to see these companies whose services I only use every 3 months, cry for

A feature like Facebook stars (or whatever it’s called) is one way to pay publishers without paywalls. I default block medium posts on my search engine now. Until I see on HN how Medium has improved, this will remain.

My issue with nomad is I also have to handle a second cluster, Consul, and that's it's own overhead. I'd rather just stay with k8s if the alternative is Nomad. Id totally jump to Nomad if all I had to do was deploy nomad, and

I think Apple is doing a great job, but I also think trusting by default is a mistake. Apple’s leadership might change. In fact, no one can claim to know apple’s long game. You guys should watch Love+Death+Robots, Season 3, the Swarm episod
