Interesting. Would this be implementable today but on a larger scale? "Someone who cares about you on the internet" instead of "Something that prevents you from posting hate/snuff/nude on the internet" Obviousl

Most Scandinavian countries are required to make any communication in public departments (including all coworkers emails) public on request by journalists or anyone interested. This is to make any doubts regarding e.g USAID public instead o

I don't really write code that traverse trees that often these days. I do use libraries or services (e.g. SQL databases) that do though. And I have no idea whether the implementation of map/reduce I use is implemented as a recursi

I can definitely sympathise with the SQL developers here. (I have worked extensively both with SQL and C++). There is a trade off between unit tests and having control and overview of what you are writing. Also very often it is so much more

Having used Trino/Athena and BigQuery extensively, I am curious about the state of parallelism in the available prolog implementations. Being able to push the calculations to CUDA or the google/AWS "cluster" feels like i

To be honest, that watch line-up with dozens of watches looks a bit like Nokia in 2007. I have no deeper analysis than that, other than that I remember how proud they were to be able to launch 2 phones per month. I am a Garmin user myself,

Many people identify themselves with being "a coder". Surely there are jobs for "coders" and will be in the future too. But not everyone writing programs today would qualify to doing the work defined as what "a code

Yes, that platform was set to compete with iOS and Android and with fine timing. I think they fumbled with the developer relations when first choosing Gtk for the UI and then jumped to QT. That made developers angry. And then of course the

I think "looking for the perfect candidate" is the most common reason by far. Great developers with domain knowledge are always possible to fit in, simply because they are money generators rather than a cost.

Thanks! As I said I am not in the business. My impression is that bitcoins contain a lot of dark money. How is this handled then with regards to sanctions or money laundering for example?

It is not black and white. In my experience, what people want is heavily influenced by the company culture. If building platforms is cool then everyone wants to be there. But if building products is the thing then people want to work with t

Your vote would have been stronger if you actually voted for change of the process. By not voting you are just voting for the strongest candidate. And chaos.

Not voting is a poor way to show dissent since it practically gives your vote to whoever gets the majority. Better then to vote for yourself, vote blank, vote for whoever you would rather have in charge, or vote for the least bad.
