I agree on parallelism. I came to the conclusion that the author must not be including GPU programming in his assessment which does seem odd given how important it has been in recent years.

Well for comparison, GC was a yes right. And basically every popular (modern) language incorporates garbage collection. Functional programming, or at least fairly strict functional programming, still hasn't really caught on. Of the jug

Honestly I don't care what is be tracked, but until it is no longer the case that 60% of webpages slow my computer to a crawl for about six seconds I am not turning mine off, no matter how many times the website asks politely.

I'm interested in how the author got the sound working. I would have thought that external usb dacs would work just fine, as they seem to be plug and play compatible with just about everything, but apparently that isn't the case.

You have to allow for some level of pragmatism. They found a method that seems to provide better data without actively biasing their results. Rodents make convenient test subjects, and no scientist wants (or more likely it doesn't even

In case you were unaware, Apple and infosec come up together very frequently, often because 0days for iOs are exceptionally rare and valuable.

Thank you for pointing this out. For a community of fairly intelligent people, hacker news comenters fall back on false equivalence near constantly.

Could someone explain to me why on earth 15ms of lag for a key press is considered good? It is a switch for gods sake. It should be near instant.

Also use c++ on a daily basis. It is a dark place, full of nooks and crannies inhabited by venomous insects that only get more dangerous with age. Also you cant declare a variable without constructing it or making it a raw pointer. Which. i

> Social media firms are thus following in the path of other media firms and are (like The NY Times) putting ad revenue ahead of the first amendment. This isn’t unexpected, these firms are the “tories” of our day.

I think the major fear is the precedent he sets for divisive politics in the future. He also may cause the US to loose ground to China as far as foreign influence goes, but the first point is what worries me.

About the free speech thing, people should say free speech when they mean free speech and not the first amendment. The first amendment is a specific thing with a specific meaning, and invoking it implies the weight of law. Facebook can cens

If you are talking about the ideal of free speech then call it that. Not the first amendment. I am idealizing a process in which social shaming encourages conformity. That is the only reason society works, we learn how to interact with ot

Sure, but you used to be able to just browse the front page. Try looking at the reddit frontpage from five years ago and comparing it to right now. And yeah, there are good subreddits but not very many of them are highly active.

First off, the first amendment is specifically with respect to congress, and I don't understand why I have to say this so often. Second, society has always been self censoring, but the internet has thrown a wrench into that by allowi

Don't underestimate the importance of these flagship cars. They serve a purpose. Why do you think Ford has the GT? They are a test bed for new technologies and increase brand prestige.

The car in the image has some monster tires on it. Doesn't give you the compression (or whatever you use to describe the give in the tire) friction you get with serious drag tires, but with a good four wheel drive system?

Wing shouldn't matter all that much in this case. Grip is most important in the initial moments of acceleration on the drag strip where having a wing isn't quite as important. This car[1] runs in the 7s without a wing at all. [1]

There are some valid points here. Too bad the author felt like taking the least objective possible tone and liberally using half truths and false equivalence was the way to present them.
