There's a famous quote by Uptain Sinclair that is applicable, if indirectly. "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." If Vitalik was wrong, do you think he&

How could you, a non-expert, discern what parts were bias or not? You might believe you'd learn more things, but how much of it would be spun? What is left out, glossed over, or exaggerated?

Not people, but I'd like incumbent mega-corporations be compelled to not lock down the devices they sell. And device drivers for android, at minimum, since the ASOP folks could use them now. Linux would be great because it would eventu

Not strawmanning, just misunderstood! I think it would help, but it would require a big shift in the way people think about phones. They'd need to be thought of as computers right (which they are), so people would expect to be able to

Donno! But would you take Tim Cooks opinion on Android phones? How about Elons on NASA? Gonna need a less invested source.

In addition to pioneering the majority of the ways phones are locked down, they also lost a lawsuit for degrading the performance of older phones with those updates. So it's not really a good thing? We want to be able to replace the ba

Just reads like a pitch? Might be valid but Vitalik has kind of a lot skin in the game so it's hard for me to take it at face value.

You're throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Because your mother can't easily update her phone, you'd have it so no one can? No, that's just silly.

If we were to give up all the things that someone's figurative family members couldn't handle, we'd be literally living in the dark ages.

EU regulators should be asking for unlocked phones with open source drivers. Then we can use the phones longer without depending on these orgs.

Yes, and 'without the users permission' might as well be Apple's company motto.

Does this scanner upload any information to Apple or perhaps the authorities without the users permission?

I think the wealthy are already well beyond the denial phase and that is part of the problem. There might be a global panicked landgrab being undertaken by those who control large amounts of capital. Because if they dont, someone else will.

It's not really better to move from one closed eco system to another. We should collectively agree to strengthen more open platforms, shouldn't we?

Having had the displeasure of dealing with several large oligopolies, I have been trained to ignore FAQ funnels/forums/chat windows/phone menus. They seemed to be designed to frustrate the user into giving up.

Slack is a chat program of which their are countless. Most of them are literally free. If you can't see the value in what Boston Dynamics has created, I have a ToDo list application to sell you for several billion dollars.

Brilliant, as usual. Her patreon is woefully under funded, given the feats being performed. Hopefully that's not her primary source of funding. Reminds me of when slack was sold for 30 billion dollars, and Boston Dynamics sold for 1.5

The problem isnt the ads (I have an ad blocker), it's that the ad companies think they should be allowed to build a profile on me everywhere I go. No thanks.

To me what youre writing sounds like a parody given the context. And I feel like I could write a form webpage with a logo in significantly fewer characters than used in your explanation for why you need all that stuff. But this isnt my fiel

I agree that would be ridiculous, but I'm talking about people using some huge front end library, react, k8s, etc, to make a form. With a logo. Obviously do whatever you want, but it's a lot.

Yes, that's the point I'm trying to make. At the end of the incredibly complex and long modern road, you end up looking at text, images, etc, in a browser.

You have to at least admit that there's an awful lot of stuff done these days to render what used to be done with html.

Yeah but just because you made a list of unrelated things, doesn't mean I have to let my kids get addicted to some silly government controlled app. I wouldnt want them to get addicted to gambling, or drugs either. Thatd be a dumb thing
