And this is what you understood from that? Intel Macs will soon become obsolete. Lots of folks will not just throw away a few years old machines. So between the choice of ditching perfectly fine hardware due to an unsupported OS or switchin

I can at least confirm that Ubuntu 22.10's out-of-the-box touchpad support is PERFECT on a 2008 Macbook Aluminum (Core 2 Duo / 8GB RAM / SSD). Exactly as you'd expect with macOS. I was actually astounded at how better th

As a current user of Dropbox, Google Drive & OneDrive I can definitely say that Dropbox beats the other two (and probably any other similar service) in both network transfers (up/down) and indexing time (especially if you consider

This may not be directly apparent to "typical" HN crowd, but PHP is having a quiet renaissance, thanks in part to a standardization of tools and processes, a more mature ecosystem (Laravel has been a huge factor here) plus the p

Out of curiosity, since iOS seems to have a ~20% share in Romania, why not launch on Android first (which makes business sense at ~80% market share)? And if Apple keeps dicking around, at least make it easy for the mobile site to be install

The business model of Unattach seems problematic though. Folks with storage issues are the ones who will not want to pay to increase storage for their Google account (not judging) but they would pay for a service to delete attachments?

If the purpose is to test static html pages only, what's the problem with just opening them up in the browser with file:// paths? For everyone else who need PHP, python, ruby or node they can just use Homebrew to install the

IDEA: Browser vendors (or browser engines) should just agree on a bare minimum of modern fonts (the most used perhaps by websites?) and include them with their releases. Additionally, why not have a working group to deal with font upgrades

For personal sites? Sure, why not. For anything commercial though, especially in media publishing, this is just insane. I'm beginning to think the old generation of "celebrity" web devs (the ones that became famous in the 200

I remember inheriting a RoR v2 based project. Ended up virtualizing the entire server to migrate the damn thing as it was a big pile of dependency mess to port to a newer server stack. On a similar situation with a PHP 4 based codebase, ada

Joomla has several d'n'd content builders nowadays. As for the separation of types of extensions, that's actually a good thing for many practical reasons. In the end, it depends on what you're building...

Here's a simple idea for the Chromium team: Bundle the top 100-200 Google web fonts (in .woff2 format) with Chromium (less than 20-30MBs) and boom, you just accelerated the entire internet.
