But even then, component aging and drift is something that is considered by serious manufacturers- Mitutoyo can probably guarantee and back it up with tests, that their design will maintain the accuracy over some time frame. Of course it do

Calibration only verifies the stated accuracy at some conditions. I'm pretty sure Mitutoyo verifies the design and performance across specified temperature and humidity range, which I'm pretty sure the fakes skip. Tiny difference

One thing to watch out for: you're correct on jellybean linear regulators having a PSRR of ~80dB, it is frequency dependent. It is usually good at low frequencies (couple kHz) bu usually falls off as you approach switching frequencie

Vendors provide reference software for their chipsets. More often than not, the software provided by vendor is the bare minimum needed to prove that their hardware sort-of-kind-of works. It is by no means able to achieve the best performanc

I wouldn't be surprised that OEMs are actually net positive on Windows and all the trials of antiviruses and games they're bundling with PCs.

A similar microscopy technique exists, where the tip does not make contact with the surface, but is instead kept within a nanometer from the surface. At that scale, due to effect I can't claim to understand (quantum tunneling) small am

Yeah, it definitely needs to be done- if not for other reasons then just to find out exact machine limits and have more data for the next design iteration.

From what I have seen, what some of the research gets wrong is focusing too much on actuators and less on the frame rigidity/dynamics. Even if it's possible to arrive at somewhat okay-ish position performance using vision based fe

I recall reading some hobbyist experiments that show that not all drivers implement microstepping equally: some have very bad angular linearity. I can now find this article, but I think the one I remember reading also tested the torque in m

The argument here usually is: with a fixed silicon chip, vendor can hide the backdoor in various locations and be it triggered by various events (e.g. a particular sequence of incoming ICMP packets would overwrite the first byte of response

Many products listed on Alibaba has MOQ of 10/100pcs. However if you contact them and ask for a sample, most will happily deliver a few pieces at 2-10x the volume cost + delivery fees.

For someone living in a suburb but having work and daycare in city a work-from-home might actually make commute worse (or it would for me, if I had to work from home).

That is indeed interesting, I haven't seen it in the wild. Lot's of bad solder joints, shorted MLCCs- sure. I'm now tempted to scratch the ones used in designs I have access to.

The physical layer for eMMC is SDIO- the same is used for SD cards, at least if you want more than ~ a megabyte/s of interface bandwidth. IIRC the layers above SDIO are slightly different for eMMC and SD(HC), but generally SoCs that ha

I don't see it as lowering the cost of entry much (i.e. FPGA chip with reasonable number of gates for Linux is on the order of 50EUR/pc, and general purpose CPU performance is not even remotely close to, let's say Allwinner o
