Some microcontrollers I've been working with, that had USB capability also supported DFU- flashing new firmware via USB. I have also resurrected a write-broken flash drive, by re-flashing it's firmware (a tool for which was provid

The tools for this are already here. Check out OpenSCAD. It's a parametric 3D modeling tool, which lets you create 3D models using code (loops, variables, math functions are available). It can export projections of your models in DXF t

When the goal has been hit, users are more likely to back the project than when the goal was not hit. I think Formlabs founders also explained this in their post-Kickstarter interviews- they intentionally set initial goal below what they ac

I think the EE part is pretty much covered on the net. As a software engineer I was able to create a prototype of hardware product I wanted to build with minimal EE knowledge- by searching how to implement specific subsystems in hardware- e

According to display controller's datasheet[1], it does support analog (RGB) input too ;) Edit: well, reading the datasheet a bit more, the RGB interface is somewhat digital. But fiddling with timing is still there ;) [1]: http://www.adafr

In addition to reading a book on basic EE, buy an AVR-based Arduino. From a perspective of professional EE/embedded developer Arduino may seem limited, but there is loads of information on "how to connect X to Arduino". If you are specially

Taking on new customers when existing ones are sufficient is risky for developers as well. I myself only take on new projects from customers I haven't been working previously only under three circumstances: 1) I'm running low on my reserves

The best they could do is ditch Thinkpad brand for their consumer grade machines (SL , R ). T and X series are Thinkpads. The rest- not so much. SL and R series "Thinkpads" are rubbish, imo. Not to mention the cheap Ideapad's- the build q

That's one of the reasons I don't like shopping offline- I hate the act of negotiation about price of something. I also don't like to negotiate on price when I'm selling something myself. If I'd be willing to sell it cheaper, I'd put a chea

A little exaggerated but not far from true. Not speaking of gifts specifically- I'm amazed by the amount of junk toys and useless gadgets coming from China. I actually don't know what amazes me more- that someone thought: "Hey, it's a great

It seems to me that someone was scanning their network for specific services- probably, some DBMS. Printer received the initial communications packet(s) and happily printed whatever was received.
