If there is a mailing list for the software, why not send releases information over there? It makes a lot of sense to me. I'm also subscribed to several, and some software also announce patches or security related stuff on mail lists.

I've used guacamole many times and can only say good things about it. It's much easier to give a client web based access to their server than explaining how to use remote access.

My main concern with node is how fast everything moves. Try to maintain a project that started with es5, then migrated to es6 (but some legacy code is still es5), then added some es2017 and now is adding slowly typescript to the monster, an

Android 7 has that too, under the "permissions" setting for apps. It's a "I don't want any notification" or "I want all of them". Are those settings in oreo better?

Or how Google talk was before hangouts. With talk, at least, you could use any XMPP client, and the web ui was wonderful for the time.

I would have added this "feature" with a mechanism to detect if it's running inside a TTY. That way, automated tests, pipes or scripts that parse the output wouldn't have this problem. But seriously, who uses a documenta

What other cost are you referring to? The 3D printer? You can send your design to a studio and they'll print it for you and send it, or you can rent time in some places to get access to a printer, without needing to buy one. In any cas

In some terminals, python buffers the output until it has enough and then dumps it to the console. IIRC it is like this because the console can be pretty slow, so by buffering you can do more calculations instead of always waiting for the c

I remember the tale someone fuzzing the same fuzzer to find bugs. I can't find the link though. General tools like an editor, a decompiler, or even an image editor can be used to modify the software itself. After all, if you're th

Under "technical details" it goes into the why. What I understood is: ocaml tries to support pre-NT era strings, since that's what the console uses, but NT-era files use a different encoding, and ocaml internally uses UTF8 fo

The problem I found with couch is handling user permissions at database level. Except for that detail, it's one of the best databases I've ever used.

I second this. Mongo clusters are easy to manage, and the aggregation pipeline or MapReduce engines do wonders on a sharded cluster with tons of data. That's the selling point of mongo for me.

Not all systems support qtwebengine (by support I mean: have the current version of qt), and the developer still has qtwebkit as a fallback. Both implementations differ a lot, and I'm happily impressed to see support for both at the sa

I'm 22 and also tech savvy, but I find it quite simple to use. I think the target users are those that have pinch-to-zoom interfaces as kids (the today's teens), so the UX is meant to be "cool" instead of intuitive. Anot

Git stash is a great tool to keep unfinished work, IMO. You _stash_ your changes if you need to work on something else, and then you pop it from the stash to continue working on it. No commits, no branches. Just stash and pop.

I think the selling point of soylent is how easy it is to consume. You just drink it and done. Cleaning is as easy as washing your cup. That's an attractive point if you don't enjoy the ritual of eating, or simply want to spend t

A nice selling point for me is the registry. If you have a public image, it's totally free. If it's private, you can pay to use it privately in a team. Of course, you can mount your own (it's a docker image, after all), or y

This is still anecdotical, but most python developers I know would chose py2 if given the choice. It's what they know, and they don't want to change semantics even if it's just changing how you write prints.

Most of these projects use CSS or the DOM to provide animations, which aren't available on react-native. Usually, all compatibility problems between the two come from that.
