I prefer Linux sucking away my time over Windows sucking away my time any day. Also, I don't feel like Microsofts attitude towards users is much better, theirs is "fuck you, we're getting your money anyways, eat trash".

I used to use the compose key lot, currently I really like Espanso. It does arbitrary text replacement, has some pretty fancy features, but is also quite useful for turning \alpha or  into the symbols I want. https://es

https://ncase.me/nutshell/ is pretty neat. I don't know how well suited to "serious" applications it is, though.

I really like using OpenStreetMaps, the maps are so much more readable than GMaps. And the map material itself is quite good too. I only wish the search in OsmAnd was a lot better than it is.

The comment https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38109510 has very similar content and is a few hours older than this one. Did you post the same thing under two usernames or something?

I made another comment already, but also: Uberspace! They're a shared hoster with a pay-what-you-want/can model. They have pretty solid documentation for most things one could care about. I had some problems a few times (which wer

German Light Products, they make stuff like stage lights and controllers for those. We had an old DMX controller lying around at my school, and one of the faders was broken. I kind of liked the device, it had some charm, so I decided to rep

Eliminating accidental and deliberate loopholes and using whatever mechanisms that already are usual (including criminal prosecution and potentially imprisonment) might be a start.

Yeah, you're right, he was massively lucky too. But even with that, does he deserve this much wealth for this? Would he deserve this much money if executing that idea was incredibly hard?

Same for me, but with location-related stuff. I often see random Wikipedia articles or tourism websites for stuff near the city my IP address is from... Worst of all, sometimes there's a block of filler results between actual results,

I pay for Nebula, which has many of the creators I care about. When I have enough money, I'll pay for Patreon or similar stuff. I refuse giving Google revenue/money, even if they somewhat take creators hostage.

One benefit of meeting basic needs (like housing, food, utilities) directly is that it's easier for the people who need it. Some others here have pointed out that many homeless people have something that keeps them from managing a hous

Just because another system would fail these people too doesn't mean that our current system in how it works isn't failing these people. And just because big bad communism is another shit extreme, that doesn't mean that there

First of all, that's not a representative sample. It might be that that is really how it is for everyone who uses food banks, or it might be completely different. A sample of two doesn't give enough information to know. But mostly

Why? Of course, someone might just be toxic. But if someone is actively trying to repair a relationship, wouldn't it be better for everyone to see it as that and try and reciprocate?

Then tell them that! Give them the feedback they need so they can know how to communicate with you better. (Talking about person-to-person relationships, of course) In the end, this is a matter of taste. Just because something works for som

A few people have mentioned the compose key as a way to insert Unicode characters system-wide. I also really like Espanso[0]: You can use it to replace any typed string with anything else, it even supports forms and executing scripts /

Are you using "intercity" literally, as in "between cities"? Intercity (IC) is a specific type of train in Germany, which (aside from some edge cases) you can't use with the 49€ ticket. I think you're thinking
