I feel sad that the CV of this obviously talented physicist shows that he has spent the last 8 years working in search engine optimization for e-commerce websites. I wonder if society would not have benefited more if someone without a physi

There is art from obsolete technology right here (scroll to bottom): https://gundersen.net An art installation from floppy boxes called "Resistance to Change".

I wish reviewers would include some measure (real, not paper) on GPGPU performance. WPA hashes per second is a widely known reference number for integer performance. Neural network training is a similar one for floats.

Why test everyone if the group is tainted? A binary search (subdividing into two groups) would seem more efficient. Perhaps they had to call everyone back in for a second sample and thought that three times would seem silly.

I really enjoyed this article. It is obvious that the author has some real insight. Also, I am tired of otherwise smart people automatically assuming they are smart in any field, not just their own. It seems the author is too.

In the mobile industry all the service providers and virtual operators are such examples. They get to use the physical networks of the incumbents for a governemnt regulated price in most markets, to create competition an make sure the incum

The automation needs to be programmed and constantly adjusted for even newer technology. Software development will be a huge sector.

After the tinkering stage of software development, this magazine gave me articles about real algorithms. It filled the gap perfectly. Then I went on to university with a real head start.

Very impressed. Solid knowledge demonstrated. The blog makes it seem so easy, but imagine the years of trial and error needed to produce this knowledge (which of course the author gets "for free")

Learn to trust virtual memory. This is the real reason not to use temp files. Virtual memory handling is mature in all modern operating systems.

It is not due to the time for resilvering. It is due to the rated probability of a non recoverable 1bit (or more) read error on modern drives. This probability is high enough that you have a 32% chance of it on reading 1TB. However, this is

When SSDs fail, they can leave the entire disk unreadable. Spinning disks will usually only corrupt or deny access to a small part. This is very bad if you do not have backups. Beware! http://www.gundersen.net/solid-state-dr

But what about those of us who doesn't know where we are and what year it is, when we wake up from a nap? Does the results still hold for us? I am so disoriented after a nap that I am borderline deranged for several minutes.
