> And you only get one profile active at a time. This isn't true. As I'm writing this, I have three Firefox windows open, each in a different profile. What makes you think you can only have one profile active at a time?

Hmm, interesting, because I don't force myself to use Firefox. I use it because it's just plain better than Chrome, in that I can configure it just the way I want.

To explain your error a bit less facetiously, the point my sibling is making is that SOP is the default policy, which is maximally restrictive. CORS is a technology used to relax SOP, to make it less restrictive. So it is not CORS that prot

SOP should primarily be understood as a restriction on reading responses , not making requests.

The situation is a bit more nuanced, given the large feature set that Matrix is trying to implement. > Break one key, and all messages will be accessible to an attacker. How do you propose breaking that one key, though? The attacker also

>Regarding the security theater, the backups encrypted with your password are far more vulnerable to being compromised than any of the popular e2e encryption protocols. Hmm? How so? Surely this depends on the strength of your password.

"Normal" people are slowly but surely starting to care about encryption. They hear about it from people participating in self-referential bubbles like HN and then they start wondering. This is my experience.

I think you mean Element doesn't show previews when E2EE is on. This is not a fundamental limitation but a default setting in order to preserve privacy. You can easily turn URL previews for a given E2EE room on by going to the room s

It is a no-brainer that software must, in fact, have settings and the modern UX principles are heavily in the wrong. Having too many options is a curse too however, so that doesn't mean that one should add options without thought nor t

Signal's and Matrix's position is quite different because Signal doesn't attempt to be a distributed eventually-consistent data store but simply a message transport. This is a trade-off which costs you some metadata leakage

You somehow got the wrong impression. The homeserver does most definitely not see the plaintext of messages sent into encrypted Matrix rooms. It is proper end-to-end encryption using pretty much the same constructions as Signal.

I can accept that. But in order to improve, we have to get specific about what it is that is lacking compared to e.g. Discord.

Yes, but that's a deeper problem with the very concept of ontologies and not with RDF itself. As long as you keep the scope limited, that is you do not try to "categorize all human knowledge ever, consistently", ontologies ca
