I meant something capable of extending the GUI. For example, displaying the autocomplete with documentation and mouse scrolling. Shells can do that, but they are limited to text. I also want a marketplace where I can browse extensions made

I love the idea of an IDE-like terminal! I think that it could greatly benefit from using its JS runtime for an extension system: visual autocomplete, syntax highlight, even fancy special effects.

swc only does transpilation, it does not support TypeScript's type-checking which is its main feature.

If you ever want to debug/mess with the memory saver you can look at "chrome://discards". Chromium already discarded tabs when the system memory pressure was high, what the memory saver brings is a smarter policy [0

First time I'm hearing about CXL. I was going to ask if GPU vendors could benefit from CXL to make GPU memory directly accessible? But I got my answer: NVIDIA has launched GPUDirect which does pretty much that without CXL.

I didn't know about the devtools protocol snapshots, pretty cool! I takes ~5 ms to generate an SVG for google.com (not including loading the page). For your use-case I'd recommend doing something similar but using the SkPicture st

Thanks Slim! I'm indeed using the root of the word on purpose to ensure it splits into 5 characters, mapping 1:1 with the latin version while still showing the glyph substitution. I used the Janna LT font because it renders root words

I've opened an issue to track PDF support [0], you can subscribe to get updates for this specific feature. For general project updates you can use the "Watch" button on the repository to get commit updates on your feed. [0]

Hopefully both! More precisely PDF, and bitmap with an option to encode as JPEG, PNG or WebP. I'll have to find a new name..

I had a lot of people reach out this week-end for PDF support, so I'm planning on implementing it with PNG support this week. Thanks to Skia, it should just require a few lines of code.

I had to look up what a BMC is: baseboard management controller, it's a chip on the motherboard that allows monitoring and administrating servers remotely independently from the OS through an independent connection.

Apple provides the Accelerate framework [0] to access these instructions through high-level APIs. It is available in user-mode, and I doubt it switches to kernel mode although I didn't check. [0]: https://developer.apple.com

Rust is mainly introduced to the kernel to allow writing safer drivers, which makes a lot of sense considering a crashing driver likely means a crashing computer.

First time I'm hearing about Tachyum. Looks very promising, although it does sound too good to be true, especially the cross-ISA support. Interesting bit I found researching them: https://www.nextplatform.com/2020/

WebAssembly is a sort of web-based compiler. Compiling WebAssembly to x86 isn't that much different from compiling LLVM's IR to x86. And nowadays, you can interop WebAssembly with most modern languages, making it a target of choic
