Is Material dead? What replaced it?

by farmin 4y ago
Thanks. I was about to freak out if you built and maintained all this as a 1 person team.

Did you build this all by yourself? Looks like a great tool.

This looks good. I’m currently exploring Firebase for offline support in Ionic/Angular app, but am much more familiar with SQL. Is capacitor support on the cards?

This was true for me. I made ok money off a simple web service I created in 2013 with no formal education. But I think it still exists to a lesser degree now, probably only if you have some other domain specific specialisation though, conta

Would Google ever close Firebase, or quick Angular?

by farmin 4y ago
You're welcome. I have to guard my heart from envy when I read one person being able to pull something like that off.

I am brand new to it but it has blown me away. I can have my front end ionic stuff and backend functions in the same repo. I have so far only done PWA but can technically deploy do ios and Android from same code. npm at my disposal everywhe

Ionic/Angular with Firebase.

Nice. Are you able to share what you are working on and why WASM was a mistake?

This is so cool

Gotcha. I'm just testing Firebase now so was front mind. I come from a python, sql, setup own VPS on Ubuntu etc kind of background. Cloud functions and nosql is all quite different.

by farmin 4y ago
You want firebase?

I think go with Ionic and Angular. The ionic components are really great way to get acceptable UI running quickly and straight away you have a PWA even if you dont go down the iOS Android path. Angular is opinionated which is good. Less dec

I have a 46 inch Panasonic plasma which is still my favourite TV. Colors are great, changed channel in an instant. Nothing smart on it. It's pretty big and heavy and huge bezels by today's standards though.

Oh I have no doubt, but I am thinking of niche use cases in a offline setting.

Great achievement! Now please PostGIS in the browser would make this incredible. Turfjs is a bit limited for Ionic and electron apps, imagine PostGIS in the browser. When I see 'in the browser' I read 'in an easy build and sh

You will inevitably rewrite everything right if you see good growth? This type of architecture stuff is surely over engineering mostly? Im not an engineer but have developed lots of web apps < 1000 users. Maybe outsource anything that re

Ok that changes things. I just saw too some keyboard/case combos have touch pads below the keyboard. Anyone have any recommendations?

The vnc thing rocks. I've installed uis on cheap remote dedicated servers. I would do my satellite imagery exploratory work via VNC that way since up about 2018 internet was a big problem here. In server could download 10gb imagery at

That's cool. Didn't know Safari had dev tools on ipad. I did try blink. I wanted to get vscode running via SSH plugin from a vps but didn't have patience to figure it out. Then I realised I should just use my laptop.

What apps do you use on ipad for development?

Ok thanks. I appreciate that insight.

I wonder about food safety. I grow grains like wheat, barley, chickpeas. Would selling 1kg bags online require some sort of food safety standard approval or just give them a vendor dec if they ask for it like selling in bulk.

Yes! I bought a used iMac 27 inch. It's beautiful screen but still getting used to the OS. I sold my Dell 9700 which was giant and kept my carbon X1 for loungeroom.

Thanks for your reply. I think BoM do offer some stuff. But check out SILO for easy access to historical data. https://www.longpaddock.qld.gov.au/silo/
