I second https://every-layout.dev . I was amazed to find out how straightforward the CSS is to accomplish the common layouts we see across the web. CSS is always a tricky one for me but every time I learn about modern CSS I get

I wholeheartedly agree. I don’t think I will ever understand why people want to mess with legibility in a craft that is so heavily dependent on using correct characters in correct places.

You might be interested in futurefonts.xyz. Kind of like Kickstarter for fonts. You pay for typefaces in development. Price goes up as more features and components get added but you get everything that’s included when you buy it and then ev

One more thing, maybe the most important. Find the people you love and trust the most and spend time with them as often as possible. I never would have gotten through my mental health struggles without my wife, kids, and friends.

I have struggled with this too. A couple things that have worked for me: 1. Early morning walk after the sun’s up. 2. Set just one task, no matter how small, that you can get done in the day. Even if it’s just writing a few lines of code or

How old are your kids, if you don't mind me asking? I wonder if a lot of opposing and strong opinions in this thread are due to different parenting experiences at different ages (of parents and children). I've been a dad for alm

I think it depends on how you interpret lonely. I've always had a great support system in family and friends so I haven't been physically lonely. But feeling a sense of failure or that I'm dealing with a specific issue that

I'll check out that article. I'd like to commend Anthony Bradley's work to you. It's a tangent to what you're working on. He focuses a lot on the relationship between fathers and sons specifically but I'm su

That's a good way to put it. I think there's also an element of sacrifice if you're even at least trying to be a good parent. And I'm more and more convinced that sacrifice is the ultimate source of fulfillment, as cou

Thanks so much for your work. I am a father of two and also recently assumed the role of father figure to my 8 year old nephew. I’ll definitely be checking this out.

Bully for you is just a figure of speech that means ‘good for you’ with a touch of irony. Got it from the Ron Swanson character in Parks and Rec.

I don’t know why so many comments are railing against the characterization of fatherhood as being a ‘long, emotional, draining, and lonely journey.’ If you’re a father and have never experienced any of that then bully for you. I have. I ca

You’re describing the ideal but not every dad is at that ideal state. I do think therapy is important. No one said this app is a panacea. It can be a useful tool for dads who are struggling. Also, strength will always fail sooner or later.

I agree that it should be up to the appropriated culture. I’m not saying all you have to do is read a book. If you want to participate in another culture it takes a lot of work to learn and participate respectfully. And you’d probably have

I do agree that people obsess over it to the point where the conversation becomes an annoyance to some. But I also think it’s important to understand the things like this that divide “tribes” when society seems to be getting more tribalisti

I think cultural appropriation is more a matter of having manners and considering the feelings of others. If you take something that is a meaningful to another culture and treat it as a novelty or turn it into a fashion statement you are do

The article could do with more substance overall but this is one of my biggest pet peeves and I appreciate it being pointed out. I think the tendency of some tech articles/tutorials to refer to things as simple is part of the faux-fri

Here's my two cents: 1. Make sure you know very well ahead of time how you feel about your given subjects and what you want to say about them. 2. Do #1 by spending a lot of time writing. It's amazing how often I realize that my i

I agree with the other comments about the article being difficult to read. But kudos to the author for taking the time and effort to put their words into practice and attempt to make an interestingly designed piece of writing.

In regards to point 2: Having kids and reading tons of books out loud to them has really impressed upon me how important this is. Reading my own writing out loud has been a real turning point for me in developing my writing skills.

I used to shy away from editing my own writing. I felt like I couldn’t possibly make any improvements since I was the person who wrote the writing that needed editing in the first place. But once you get used to it, the real fun of writing
