I do have one beef with this article... This is "rendering for the masses" not "animation for the masses". The two have very little to do with each other. Great animation comes from good timing, good acting, and other things that have very

Well sure it is. You are doing intersections of rays with the "scene database". The biggest bottleneck in MOST raytracing systems is ray-intersection, not shading or lighting calculations, especially for complex things like refraction, refl

I have a friend who almost got a felony conviction b/c of fake ids. But that was the 80s. These days, I don't think you'd get a plea.. identity crime is a way bigger deal.

This is one of the few benefits of a single-payer system.. It might actually encourage entrepreneurship, since healthcare is so prohibitively expensive.

This thing looks so cool... I'm really excited to buy one, I think there is a huge market for great software in consumer electronics - this might be a fun and cool way to build things fast.

By design, I meant "industrial design"... It looked great, but worked like crap, so it really hurt their image worse than if it sucked all around.

What a funny consequence of having a massively successful product. The design was so successful, that they sold so many phones, that they lost tons of customers. If this were a failure in every way, then it wouldn't be as much of a problem

This was my impression after reading a valleywag article. Probably bad form on my part, but whatever. Also, I doubt I'm "too young" to remember much about google, since I remember when it didn't exist.

Wow. Marissa Mayer is a serious self-promoter. When she can't take credit for an idea, she tries to take credit for "not killing" an idea?

Good point - "release early, release often" is also a quest to perfectionism, but is a public quest. You have your users determine what is perfect, what directions to go in. Holding something to yourself until it is "perfect" is a solo que

I try not to feel guilt about it. Rich white folks get what they want through privilege. Going to a top notch college is a great equalizer for everyone else who wasn't lucky enough to be born to the right parents - if you can get there.
