Being attractive must be very hard. Men (especially the ones in IT) are so lucky that few of them will ever have to experience that affliction.

Groping is not OK, but an invitation to a date? How are people going to get together in the future, matchmaking by computer is the only "form" allowed? I suppose that would be good news for her startup... It's sleazy to invit

Not sure if that logic holds. Seems like a viable strategy to show your best side while trying to lure a candidate. Once they are hired, they probably won't be showered with swag and limo rides anymore. In fact I would consider it a wa

The bar for resistance to boring tasks? Probably that would really be a good indicator for a valuable employee who would work on whatever you throw at him. Don't get me wrong, I love that kind of puzzles, but only for a while. They don

I'm not in the valley, but I have the same impression: companies are not overly desperate for developers. I'm also over 40, perhaps they are only desperate for developers fresh out of school who are still passionate.

I can of course imagine reasons why people like cars. I was just surprised by the distinction of poor people using public transport and rich people using their cars. Actually I consider it a privilege to not need a car. I pay for it with hi

Supposing it would matter, why wouldn't laptop manufacturers include some 0.01$ part that switches off the charger as needed?

I'm not asking because of moral sensibilities. I find having to own a car very inconvenient.

You have to look for parking, deal with traffic jams (maybe buses have extra lanes, they would in the greatest bus system of the world). You don't have to focus on driving but can read. You don't need to maintain a car. And so on.

"relied upon by probably millions of lower income people." That sounds odd, about the bus system. So if you can afford it, you pass on the bus system? Why, if it is so great? Where I live I prefer public transport over driving (cy

I really have no idea, but off the top of my head, perhaps you could invite some companies for talks or visit them to check with them if they could use any mathematicians. Maybe some could use maths but don't know it yet.

Maybe companies could start offering that as a perk. Perhaps something like the Japanese Capsule Hotels? A place to sleep in the office. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsule_hotel

Just because it is (currently) the best model doesn't mean you shouldn't (be allowed to) question it. I don't think anybody who doesn't question models on a regular basis is a real scientist.

"New gravity particle" - I wonder what is the point of inventing such things? Does it have any meaning at all? I suspect it is us clinging to our bias of human perception. The only reason it could be useful is maybe if "parti

I strongly prefer ebooks. Occasionally I'll buy a physical book, for example if it is cheaper (used) than the ebook or I think my spouse might be interested in the book, too. And children's books, I buy all of them in print.

I don't think you could die, but sims could make their individual rules. I think for a sword fighting sim (as an example) you would put the rules into the sword (hitpoints, damage and so on). Then everybody with a sword could participa

Why "faults"? It sounds as if he said "take it or leave it", isn't that fair? Why do you have to have a specific personality to be accepted? Nobody is forced to marry the guy.

That doesn't imply that it's technical issues that prevent replanting. In many regions of the earth, people simply don't care about replanting. And as I said, I don't think you can just replant a burnt down forest.

Is planting trees really a problem? I was under the impression that trees basically plant themselves if you let them. Also don't think you can simply replant the rain forest.

We are certainly not hardwired to crave meat (at least not more than other food). People live in all sorts of situations on the planet. Some eat meat, some don't. The success of humans is probably partly due to being able to dwell on a

These things will probably come in every box of washing powder, or cereal, or whatever, in the future. Then you can paste them all onto your fridge, from various brands and vendors.
