Thanks to your list I realized there is one in a building I walk by almost every week. Guess I'll be riding a Paternoster soon :-)

They are quite rare actually. I have never seen one (living in Germany all my life). You'd have to actively seek one out to encounter them.

I usually like to read Coupland, but I disagree here. Seems to me there were always ways to experience different moods: simply by doing things. Watching a sun setting would evoke different moods than chopping wood or reading a book.

Berlin is rapidly becoming more expensive, too. So don't wait too long.

Except, as I said, some previously productive regions were eventually destroyed for good. As I also said, we have only been doing this (modern way of farming) for a miniscule time span. We have no indication whatsoever that it can go on ind

Pure propaganda and manipulation. Guess it goes with the medium. If the worry is "not enough young people", what is the logical continuation? When we produce lots of young people now, and those become old, we need even more young

"But that is purely down to distribution problems, not capacity problems." Are you sure? There may be or have been superproductive farming areas in the world, but do they last forever? In the US there seems to be a water shortage.

There have been occurences mass starvation throughout history, so human ingenuity does not always find a way out. I think many Irish people live in the US today because of one of those starvation events not that long ago. Jared Diamond'

I'm pretty sure that if you never expose kids to musical instruments, their likelihood of becoming rock stars is much lower. Classical education was created to produce worker drones for the industry. There is nothing in classical educa

When they capture a city, ISIS kills all men older than 14 years and turns the women and girls into sex slaves (or force marries them). It seems likely that in situations where women are forced to take up prostitution, men are not living in

Maybe I overlooked something in the story, but I don't quite understand how she did it? For example she describes three girls locked into a backroom of a family, living on a couple of bananas a day. How did she get that story? I don&#x

The bank account issue at least is solved by Bitcoin. Maybe some businesses don't need to be real businesses - especially illegal ones :-/ I wonder about the consequences of running an illegal business on the blockchain, though. S

What I don't understand about the Blockchain hype (and I say that as a fan of Bitcoin): isn't the primary problem it solves the avoidance of double spending? Or in the case of Ethereum, perhaps double contracts. But still, the iss

Sure it's possible, but the problem is: we are all ready to believe it, in fact, downright jump on it. Because it fits into the general narrative (evil men, angelic women). I think it would be better to back such things up with researc

I think those articles are silly. If you ask random people on the street, they usually won't be able to name a lot of scientists. So male and female scientists tend to be forgotten. Also, I'm sure Marie Curie would also be in the
