One thing I like about Rust is that it prevents you from doing stupid things on the compiler level. I write a little bit of C/C++ and Rust. If you don't do C++ on a daily basis, you will silently introduce problems in the code tha

I think people usually say it for a different reason. Types are not enforced. You can annotate your code that looks correct to the type checker, but the actual data flow at runtime can be with different types. And it happens quite often in

He knows how to fix it, and he fixed his system. It's not universal, you need a custom patch for each model and fw version.

Interesting, perhaps, you can write a blog post about it. It would be interesting to read about what kind of changes you made to Lucene.

Too bad the development of helix is pretty slow and core devs are pretty resistant to various of changes. It would be benefit a lot from some funding, but it's hard to find funding for a TUI editor. It insane how fast Zed is moving in

New package manager is pretty slow right now, it's like 200ms to load nvim with lazy vim vs 1 sec with Pack.

Yeah, LLMs are pretty bad at planning maintainable architecture. They don’t refactor it when code is evolving and probably can’t do it due to context limitations.

What you’re working on? In my industry it fails half of the time and comes up with absolute nonsense. The data just don’t exist for our problems, it can only work when you guide it and ask for a few functions at max.

Why do I need to know that if I'm an experienced developer and I know exactly what the code is doing? The code is trivial, just print stuff to stdout along with escape sequences to update output.

It runs indefinitely to process small jobs. I could log stats somewhere, but it complicates things. Right now, it's just a single binary that automatically gets restarted in case of a problem.

I could write it myself. It's trivial, just takes a bit more time, and googling escape sequences for the terminal to move the cursor and clear lines.

People really need to start thinking twice when adding a new dependency. So many supply chain attacks this year. This week, I needed to add a progress bar with 8 stats counters to my Go project. I looked at the libraries, and they all had

VS Code has the second best lsp for Python (it’s proprietary), there is open source version of it as well with less features. The problem with other editors is the lack of good and fast lsp. Pycharm’s lsp is so head of everyone. In VS Code

I recently switched to flashspace on macOS and it fits all my needs. I would love to try a linux laptop, but I want decent battery and no fan. Arm support for linux desktops is still very very limited and buggy.

You can probably fit all words under 10-15MB of memory, but memory optimisations are not even needed for 250k words... Trie data structures are memory-efficient for storing such dictionaries (2-4x better than hashmaps). Although not as fast

On my laptop, I have tabs on the left, and the status bar and dock are hidden unless I need to see them. Regarding headers, in my browser, I have a built-in option to disable sticky headers. I don't remember any sticky footers.

I think most people lack horizontal space more than vertical. Too much vertical space makes your neck tired.
