It's also unfortunate that majors that teach people how to write and think critically are panned. Those are very useful skills and give people a better ability in normal life. I understand college is so expensive that people feel a nee

Different priorities for different people, I don't mind doing a few hours but really value having time to exercise, cook, and have general free time. I don't think 10 hour days would leave me with much time to do the things I want

I'd be interested in a study that looked at 5x6 or something similar. Sure there's 1 less day to the weekend but those shorter work days allow you to do more after work.

I would love smaller more local schools, but It's worth noting that unfortunately a bunch of the schools have reduced enrollment and the funding is per kid. I don't know how to fix it but I hope it doesn't lead to closing eve

I think the hard thing about mental work is you never feel like you've finished something. There's always more work to do and new features to build. The appeal of something like woodworking is it has a finish, and you have a tangi

There's still a short term housing affordability issue even if we do address supply issues. Social or subsidized housing are still good along with increasing the availability of higher density housing near jobs and services.

Thank you, the suggestions of "Just move" are wild to me. People create a whole life with friends, kids, family in a location and saying "Just move" to afford a house is ridiculous.

I would imagine it ends up with a similar monthly payment overall though. If I'm home buying and not paying cash (Almost everyone), then I'm looking at the monthly payment at X%. So if mortgage rates go 3% -> 5% I would guess t

One of the points that really resonates with me is magic annotations. When I learned spring I had trouble really understanding these magic annotations because all I did was add a comment, not direct code to do something. I've had simil

It's kind of wild but very common how much land is zoned for single family in north american cities, especially the expensive ones.

Conversely, could we not push to reduce consumption for the sake of reducing resource usage? There's a ton of waste from mass consumption.

BRT is still reliant on using roads that cars are on and even if it were electric, requires recharging (Unless it's on a wire). So rail in this instance makes more sense as you get cars out of the way and you wouldn't need to char

I mean it depends I guess. If it can make perfect judgement, never hit pedestrians or people riding bikes even if it's dark and rainy, then maybe. My bias is heavily toward living in the city so as far as that goes I would rather remov

I really don't believe self driving cars should be on the road at all. If it can't be perfect I do not want a computer without human intelligence controlling cars. I think a better investment would be on denser communities and pus

I've seen a few videos of it failing to account for pedestrians or bicyclists, I'm skeptical of it being on the road at all.

I personally think AI cars are an awful idea to add to the road. Trains, sure. But there's too much going on in the road and building infrastructure to enable autopilot is very pedestrian hostile.

100% agree with you. It feels like it's super easy to lose the purpose in your work along with any personal connection. I love the flexibility of being able to be home if necessary but I don't believe it leads to the most effectiv

I feel like sometimes people miss that living close to an office usually comes with living close to other amenities like restaurants, grocery stores, etc that you could walk or bike to. So "Just move to a larger and cheaper apartment&q
