One example was in an online debate about a report of necrophiliac abuse of cadavers in a funeral home. OK... but let's say that most topics in HN are of a different kind. I doubt you will receive severe stalking because you, say, praised

I asked this before to the HN community, but I didn't get much feedback; please share your thoughts. How come domain registrars have not developed this eons ago? [+] Isn't that arguably the most critical gateway for a community of web dev

Thanks for explaining what happened. Upvote and downvote buttons should indeed be farther apart.

Why the downvote? Was the last sentence considered rude? I can only hope I wasn't downvoted for 'lack of IQ' in not understanding a hint...

Do you mean the Internet? How would that be intelligence? Or do you mean my brain? That's not artificial intelligence (at least not obviously artificial!). Edit: Maybe you meant a computer... but that would be quite a long shot. In short, s

Less than 200 bucks a year. Indeed, less than 30 bucks a year [1], with unmetered bandwidth (if slow). I thought it had to be a scam, but I tried it out of curiosity... and it works! [1] For example, http://rubyringtech.com/vps-solutio

You are forgetting about a 17th-century invention based on running water [1] which, by the way, to this day is considered by many to be significantly more hygienic than wiping. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bidet

People who want to work at a great company are (likely) unwilling to make radical changes to improve things. IBM hired Ted Codd, AT&T Ken Thomson, while Google is currently Rob Pike's employer. Clearly you would not expect all employe

Thanks. I had set that up already, and gone back to Google as my default search engine since then (too traumatic a step for now!). However, I occasionally want to look things up through DDG. I have figured out how to do it now. (See my othe

Duh! I just had to press tab after typing the shortcut. Something as short as “d” is a bother because Chrome populates your omnibar with suggestions, so you have to delete and then press tab; “ddg” feels more apt =). Edited for clarity.

Does anybody know how to use a search engine other than the default from the omnibar? I see you can set a keyword under "Edit Search Engine", but then I cannot attach a query. (Say, "d" takes me to DDG's front page, but "d water" just googl

Thanks for your answer. I imagined so. But I could also think of some legitimate heavy-duty users who could threaten your profitability. Is there any fine print for those cases?

To get really blown away, consider (again if necessary) that the average spacing between neighboring primes (primes!) less than N roughly approaches ln N [1]... Stunning. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_number_theorem

Please consider bch's comment [1]. Unless you want to write quite a bit more, I believe you should actually go back to '1991' in your text. While most think that vim is indeed 'vi improved', there is a fair consensus that vim is not vi. [1]

I thought 32-bit operating systems had a hardm limit of 4GB of RAM, no? (Something to do with 2^32 being roughly 10^9, but I frankly don't know the details.)
