Yep, in a newer perl you can say: $hash->{$key}->%* to do the same thing. And you can replace the * with stuff to do slicing or whatever if you like.

G+ had events, I used to use them all the time. And then they removed them from communities, which was a large portion of how people (in my circles at least) used them. So that made it a lot less useful.

It wasn't the fastest, but I think that now browser (and CPU) tech has moved on since then, it'd probably be a lot smoother. I remember using it once to coordinate specs on a small contract job and it worked pretty well for that.

To point 1., it's illegal. You can't (readily) stop people who are willing to do things that are illegal unless you're willing to use legal methods to do so. There are points where you have to accept that a perfect solution i

Personally, I see the arguments about software security to be a bit distracting. In my experience, users of free/open source software don't generally inspect the code (there are definitely exceptions of course.) What it can provid

As far as I know, no, unless you manage aspects of that yourself via git-annex or something similar. My setup to do this is that I run my own nextcloud server, which handles the computer and phone etc. syncing, then nightly that's back

In my case I'm doing it because I really enjoy thinking about representations of solutions that make evolutionary operators more effective - it was the topic of my masters thesis. This is more "pure" GA than alife though, mos

I feel a better takeaway is "people are sometimes going to mess up, if you can do something easy to make those mess-ups less serious, it's probably worthwhile."

Oh man, I spent a lot of time in high school playing around with Tierra. It is a lot of fun. A while back I started to reimplement it in rust, just to learn it, but never got very far. About a year ago, give or take, I did do a reimplementa

Some countries resolve the porting issue by having a list of numbers that have been ported, so that banks (for example) can check that and not rely on it if the port happened in the past two weeks (also, for example.)
