Being from NZ, I thought the same. But now I live in the Netherlands in a modern building with radiators for heat. In the colder parts of winter, just taking damp outside air in at around 0° and warming it up to room temperature lowers the

Tangentially related, in Amsterdam a few years back they were digging into a spot in the central city for a new metro station. They made a display of all the archaeological artefacts that they found, which you can see along the escalators.

They did, you can do this from the page viewing the artwork itself, put onto a poster, canvas, aluminium, or a gallery print.

FWIW this also exists in the Netherlands, it's very handy when I have visitors as I can go along to most of the places they go without having to pay, or just when I have an afternoon free and want to go do something.

I think scp can do stuff like this, I remember occasionally hitting it when wanting to move a file between two servers that can't talk to each other, expecting it would use my bandwidth/route for the transfer.

It does depend a lot. Where I live there are many expats who haven't learnt anything beyond the basics of the local language, and get along fine in English. Even a lot of government departments here will send letters in both languages.

In the Netherlands, where I am, it's a requirement of companies over a certain size to have a "works council", which is something like, but not quite, a union. It's made up of employees and they are legally empowered to

Yes, that was an interesting culture shock when I moved to the Netherlands. It didn't help that where I'm from it was much more common in a bar to pay as you go, or in a restaurant for everyone to pay a share (either listing off w

I use them for some personal stuff. No real issues. I do also have one of their baremetal systems (through online.net or something) which I'm considering moving away from because it's quite slow, but excluding that they seem good.

A note that if you use Telegram, there is @scihubbot which you can talk to and will send you papers if it can. In my opinion it's faster/easier than using a web interface also.

Define "average Joe"? I haven't been in academia since I finished university years ago, but I'll sometimes want to do some digging around on some topic and get a lot of mileage out of sci-hub then.

Interesting, I know quite a number of people who have motion sickness issues. I find in general they just don't tend to play games, or at least 3D games, so much, so I guess it doesn't come up all that often.

My totally uninformed opinion is that they haven't, for whatever reason, had the marketing success that some other brands have. I'm aware of ZaReason because I have a laptop from them, but I've rarely seen them mentioned anyw

When I was young in NZ, they were zebra crossings. But then I noticed that they started more and more to be a pair of lines across the road than the zebra patterns, and the name seemed to gradually fall out of use.

I had one that asked for pedestrian crossings. Now, I've visited enough places to know that they change a lot, and that usually when you're there with context you can spot them. But from a weirdly angled photo I can't tell if
