If you're us, I hope you don't need to travel outside of cities much. That was my last phone, most newer built or refurbished towers rely on bands it can't support. I loved it until I moved to a smaller, newer city, and was c

2g is basically disabled in the US. Go out in the country, signal will be atrocious. Anything outside of a metro seems to require walkie talkies now. I've tried att, vz, tmobile, and sprint, but there's a nice spot I liked to go f

I just want better control over the processor. I'd be happy with a modern processor, running at 10% clock speed and 50% voltage or less. I had a sony phone back in the early days of android where after rooting I could actually tune the

Apologies, I'm not sure if I misremembered, misattributed, or if that was an actual previous estimate from WHO. Everything I can find now seems to be around 14 days, with the Japanese govt using 16 as a lower bound for the cruise ship.

Today the cdc had a press conference announcing the quarantine release of 195 people who flew into the US from Wuhan, based on the assumption that being asymptomatic for 14 days is good enough [0]. Last I heard, WHO is calling the upper lim

For performance reasons as well. An overloaded == operator turns a simple ceq into a function call, involving a new stack frame push and pop. If you do this on a hot path, switching to (is null) and (is object) can provide a significant spe

Yep, looking at the IL they are equivalent. And it definitely makes code prettier due to reduced parentheses. This is also true for generics. Doing (x != null), !(x is null), or (x is object) all become: ldloc.s ldnull cgt.un

Heads up for C# devs, you should switch all your code bases to use (x is null) and !(x is null) instead of ==. The is operator can't be overloaded, and always compiles to IL eq, whereas == can be overloaded in custom types. Of course i

I'd advise taking some time to disconnect. Full disconnect from phone, tech, internet and just focus on something else. Music, art, exercise, hiking, etc. I went through some pretty rough anxiety when I was laid off for the first time,

I would specifically advise against developing a tech related hobby. In my experience, it just accelerates burn out. Something that forces you to be outside/unplugged is ideal imo.
