There isn't. HTTP doesn't define a limit but browsers, servers, and other software can. A quick google search turns up multiple places referring to Internet Explorer's limit being 2,083 characters and other browsers' bei

The deduction wasn't eliminated, it was capped. Because the standard deduction was increased, most people aren't worse off but people not just in blue states but in blue cities, where property values are much higher, are worse off

I would expect vote sums to be stored separately, you don't need to query a table containing all votes on every page load any more than a bank needs to query all transactions to show your account balance.

I would absolutely expect every vote to be recorded in a row with at least up/down, by whom, and when. You can browse your own votes on posts, I don't know if there's a way to browse votes on comments. https://www.

Twitter used to have RSS feeds for every user. I still follow a few accounts using code that converts them to RSS but I probably would not have bothered if I didn't already have a Twitter API key.

When macOS crashes, it gives you the choice to not reopen the applications on login. I think Apple Support will regularly talk users through booting in Safe Mode [0] which is more dramatic but would also prevent the malicious content from r

The 2018 keyboard is much less clacky than the 2016 one but the travel is the same. I’m glad most of my typing is on an external keyboard anyway. I don’t have a problem with Esc being on the Touch Bar because it’s the leftmost target and no

It's a joke, a reference to what Trump infamously said in a meeting, "Why do we want these people from all these shithole countries here? We should have more people from places like Norway."

Lightsail includes a data transfer allowance, starting at 1TB, though importantly both data in and out is counted against the allowance. In the vast majority of cases, the allowance is enough. If you do use all the allowance, data transfer

I has a number of faculty who would print "slides" on acetate sheets to display using an overhead projector, they had the same potential for being overloaded.

What specifically do you watch on YouTube that’s comparable to the movies and scripted series on Netflix? I know YouTube Red has shows like ‘Cobra Kai’ but you seem to be referring to regular YouTube.

Yes, I wish Netflix would hide things I’ve watched more. Obviously if it’s still in My List it should remain, having a Watch it Again section is fine but they should basically disappear from New Releases or lists based on what I liked and b

That doesn’t make any sense, getting rid of user reviews makes Netflix streaming less social. Netflix is not social media. Trying to have people watch just enough to keep subscribing is too hard a needle to thread, it’s easier to encourage

Yes, adjunct faculty pay is often low for what they’re expected to do at almost all schools. A lot of tuition paid is not for the instuctor but for infrastructure and administrative costs inherent to running a school. Some of the money paid

For multi-core operations, the 12 core Xeons still compare pretty well to newer Macs but are very poor for single core. The range of video cards on that site is surprisingly decent but the newer PCIe 3.0 cards will be limited by the PCIe 2.

Sorry, I had a hard time reading the tiny, closely-packed, angled text. I wish I had seen there was a table view available. Wow, Greece workers work 49% more hours per year! The labor force participation rate for Germany is 78% but only 68%

> German is more productive because it has more technology. Right, they work smarter by using technology. I did not address the policies that created that situation, let alone attempt to contrast Germany and Greece.

by extra88 8y ago
I assume you shared that because Germany has the lowest Total Hours/worker of the countries in the dataset (Greece is not included). The U.S. workers work 31% more hours, equivalent to 12 additional weeks (assuming 35 hours/week)!
