And also, If shit really hits the fan, its not a bad idea to make sure you have a OpenVPN tunnel ready on each server. This will allow to get connectivity between old and new instances if you can't update the security groups due to the API

That's also the beauty of Rightscale. If you do everything correctly you should be able to provision a new server in another region if need be or even another cloud (ie Rackspace). Most outages of AWS don't last more than a few hours. The r
