Not to derail, but this reminds me of a cave in Southern Arizona. Graffiti is banned and it’s heavily enforced, but there is ‘historic’ graffiti from the 1920-40s that is preserved. I always found this case very interesting.

Are you suggesting that the Terms of Service you sign when you create an account bars you from ever creating a competitor app? That sounds like it would not hold up in court. It would be as if Threads could be shut down if a single person o

The source you linked to states that funding has fallen around $1220 per year per student, after adjusting for inflation. But it goes on to state that tuition costs have increased $2708 per year. So what are universities doing with that ex

Why does Apple have the only map (that I know of) that projects Earth as a ball, as it is? It seems like a very obvious solution.

That was a strange one. My Freshman year of college I wore AirPods and everyone looked at like I was an idiot with too much money. By my Junior year everyone was wearing AirPods and there was a greater stigma against people with wired earb

Likewise you have governments like the UK who are discussing bills that will effectively ban E2E encryption for children’s safety. If passed, companies like WhatsApp would just leave the market. I believe your comment is somewhat true, but

I’ve been trying it out, and I like it a lot. But I wish that you could still tap a post to collapse it, like marking a comment chain as read.

Agreed. The first 6 months to a year you might do it to get information, after that you keep it up so they can’t tell everyone what you did when they get released. You also have to think the people employed at these prisons enjoy torturing

I think the point is the only evidence that you provided for the argument that “Musk got his wealth from his family’s emerald mine” is that his parents paid for his college expenses. And that is, in my and many others minds, is a pathetica

You’re correct. I used Dark Sky for years and switched to the default iOS app when Apple bought Dark Sky and added all of the functionality to Weather. I did prefer the design of Dark Sky, since the data was larger and more visually separa

There’s a disconnect between what the masses find entertaining vs. what the elites find artistically valuable. This gap is far wider now than it has ever been. Throughout the 60s and 70s 19/20 films that won best picture were in the T

Somewhat of a meta-comment but I’m shocked at how many people are complaining about you not taking cash. Has anyone ever walked out of your coffee shop because they only had cash on them? I can’t remember the last time I paid or even saw s

I started buying UHDs (mostly Criterions) recently. I mostly don’t like owning too many things (and even buy most of my 4Ks on iTunes when they go on sale for $5) but for some films the extra quality is worth it (plus you can’t get the Cri

Could you give some examples of a page on Wikipedia being rewritten? I’m familiar with the incident of redefining what a ‘recession’ is but I’m always curious for more examples.

Not OP, but the reason is because that the values that you’re looking for tell you how to do the weighings, where the rows are weighings and the columns are the indices (it’s easier to see if you don’t translate from {0,1,2} to {-1,0,1}). B

I like how simple the deciding process becomes but I’m afraid there might be a problem. This solution works when the odd ball is always heavier, but it could either be heavier or lighter, and you don’t know which. For example, say ball 7 i

I did too, but the first line of the thread: “winter is coming (freezing emoji)” primes you to think about temperature. I’m not sure it would have been nearly as obvious if after a few months in the field I suddenly got a few bug reports.

Short answer, no. It might be possible that with very ($1000+) high end headphones about 5% of people could tell a difference, but even that is questionable. I have done many blind A/B tests with my $500+ headphone setup and no one ha

I agree with all of your points. To me this seems like correcting an oversight in Apple’s original implementation vs Apple taking away a ‘feature’. I’ve gotten AirDrop spam here in America and welcome this change.

Twitter has lost money nearly every year since it’s been public, and was losing $4 million a day when Elon took over. If jobs don’t generate money they can’t exist in the free market, and the real shock is that the previous board of direct

I’m surprised to see that Apple isn’t on the list of companies being subpoenaed. Maybe one advantage of not announcing your hotly rumored VR project until it’s done and available is that no one can subpoena you to ask about it.

Yes, this is also what I most appreciate about Apple’s approach. They’re the only company that care about calibrated displays on consumer products. Even top-end TVs like LG OLEDs ship with terrible default settings. The only display that’s
