I wish it took 3 - 5 minutes, I’ve built it projects that are far longer than that. I know this isn’t just me though, because the GHC build documentation tells you to go read stuff for a while as it builds. Longest I can remember is 2 hours

Sure - if you go to other sites Overclockers you'll see this is the suggested route (and has been for years). "Pay your dues" in tech support. I don't know why more people aren't suggested this route - you're p

This... sounds extreme. I've worked in tech since 2014 following the "trade route" method of starting in IT support in a small city in England, through QA, and then into software development. I've been a developer since

I'm glad that the RPi was successful enough to get an IPO, maybe it'll incentivize other entrepreneurs to start similar projects in the UK while showing investors they can get a decent exit funding projects like educational electr

Huh, cool! This is like Python being older than Java :mindblown:. Still, old technologies can be just as risky as new ones.

The conesnsus with those who mattered to make that change was pro-Nix, but I have no idea how you'd go back to containers because by that point builds were declarative and the implementation was spread over abstractions and repositorie

This is totally fine and I like it, my worry is scope creep once it’s in. Nix repl to experiment with new languages is really cool. Reversing updates to my OS is amazing. If I could have a rule that that is the limit - personal dev environm

Nix can do everything and that's an issue - suddenly the CI servers, AWS deployments, build servers, testing, linting, dev package management, dev system environments, and more are all written in Nix packages. You need to write nix bin

What do you mean by "Cardano audits are really late"?

Maybe! I do trust in Cardanos robustness so there could be a move towards them if something goes wrong in an Ethereum fork, or if the fees don’t come down. However I think Ethereum may be the JavaScript of blockchain - imperfect, but the wi

I don't know when this would happen - it'd be a big deal, like a fork I think. The point is on Ethereum we might create an ERC-20 token for NewCoin that wraps it and then all of our interactions with NewCoin is via smart contracts

Cardano does have significant benefits though. For example native tokens rather than wrapping things in smart contracts saves a lot of space, computation, and expense.
