That's pretty gross. Why would a hospital/healthcare system even need all that tracking? They don't make enough from their primary business that they also need to sell patient data for advertising? I would guess some dev just

It's a niche market. I love Icon's stuff but they sell very low numbers of vehicles. I would love to have an ev FJ40 or Scout, but I'm skeptical the general populace wants these as much as enthusiasts think they do.

Mrs. Davis[0] offers a pretty compelling vision of this - absurd but not wholly unbelievable. The machine doesn’t necessarily have to supply the physical threat if it has humans who happily do its bidding. [0] https://en.m.wikipe

Text-driven interfaces can be amazing. I worked at an auto parts store right out of high school. Our terminals for looking up parts were entirely text-based, and once you knew the commands and make/model/category shortcuts you cou

A PHEV seems like the ideal vehicle to me. Most people's daily drives are probably around town, which will be all EV, but for longer trips you don't have to bother with slow, potentially crowded charging stations at limited locati

There's also a decent (not documentary) limited series that explores the idea of determinism. It's pretty good and may be of interest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devs_(TV_series)

This seems like the correct and fair implementation of non-competes broadly. If companies want leavers out of the market, they should be required to pay garden leave. People have to make a living, and it’s unreasonable to expect them to cha

Yeah, the improvement from 3.5 to 4 is amazing. I'm surprised so many people are so dismissive, and I suspect it's because most of them haven't tried it out. Such are the ever-moving ML/AI goalposts.

It also makes me question how different this is from what we (humans) do. We learn a bunch of information from a variety of sources and experiences and synthesize that into answers. Sometimes we are correct and sometimes we are not. I suppo

Right, but these sort of narratives are rarely linear. In either case they would have been working compilers. At least in this version of events, they got to take a shot at a passion. They could also try again and have a roadmap and the cou

This sounds like a total win. You studied what you wanted, didn't completely wipe out your finances, and successfully re-opened a door you thought may have been permanently closed. I view self actualization as a far more important comp

A writer can't win these days. People get all worked up about they/them, too. Not all writing needs to be parsed through a political lens.

I couldn’t agree more. I like the walled garden. I don’t care if some messages are green. If I wanted to have granular control over everything, I’d buy an Android phone. I really struggle to see why some regulatory body should be able to fo

I am 100% a morning person, but I’m at work inside in the morning. I’d prefer more daylight in the evening when I’m not staring at a screen at work (though I recognize some people start and end their workday later).

Thanks for the references. The latter bit of your response rings true to my experience. I grew up in a conservative rural area, and the mainstream conservative ideas from then are unrecognizable in today’s version of conservatism.

I disagree and this is a condescending response. I know what it means to be objective. Hell, I probably lean right of the median on HN. I’m just presenting the observations of someone who could probably be called radically centrist I guess.
