Our codebase is a few years old so we are using maven for our builds instead of SBT. I've been using the intellij incremental compiler and it seems to work well. Once in a while it will complain so I hit the reimport button on maven an

I program in Scala at work full time using Intellij and I'm having a great experience. No weird compilation errors, quick, responsive. Works almost as well as with Java files.

The idea is that past experience helps you make better decisions in the future which is the value they are bringing to the company. I sense that you don't have much experience yet otherwise this would be fairly obvious.

Grails is mostly java wrapped by a light layer of groovy. Based on http://www.techempower.com/benchmarks/#section=data-r9 its a lot faster than rails.

I think a tool for the web that is as productive as VB and Powebuilder was back in the day, would be a big hit.

Choose File/New Project/Scala (sbt) and it should create an sbt project for you. Most of the scala open source projects and examples you will find on the web, use SBT so try to learn that instead of using maven or letting your IDE

+1 to that. Most programming jobs are about integrating a bunch of different technologies together to solve a business problem. In 20 years I've never written a linked-list or sorting algorithm for work yet interviews are increasingly

DataFlow is not Kinesis. It's more like Kinesis plus Esper plus BigQuery and you still wouldn't have one set of queries to run against streaming and batch data like you do with DataFlow.

That's the way we do it in production and it works great. Why create fat jar files and copy them to dozens of servers when you can just have each server pull down its dependencies from your repository.

I agree. Devops is just management speak for doing two jobs on one salary. Plus they find it hard to convince ops guys to wake up every night responding to alarms so calling everyone devops they can spread that pain among more people.

Isn't that what the loan pattern does and is easily accomplished with lambdas? Doesn't seem like a special case that needs to be supported by changing the language.
