> Risk budget How does a smaller risk budget reduce the chance of type I error? Also, a lot of care would have to be taken that all smaller studies are pre-registered as well as their outcomes. > Unblinding In practice, things happen

You are comparing the wrong numbers, 5 year-OS vs objective response. Objective response is 46% in the study you cited (Table 2). 5 year-OS is nearly always lower. The patients in the new study were only followed for a median of 6.8 months,

This sounds good, but there are a lot of practical problems: 1. How do you account for multiple testing? To ensure that the treatment actually works, you need to show a statistically significant difference between control group and experime

I'm from Europe, and have never seen anyone use a gas-powered leaf-blower, pressure washer, or weed wacker in their garden. Do you really need them?

I agree that the power of punishment as a deterrent is unclear, but your car example does not hold up, since there are a lot more bikes stolen than cars. Official reported thefts from the Netherlands [1](Note that the number of bike thefts

Basic capitalism does have something to do with Netflix' problem. However, nowhere in capitalism does it say that you need endless growth. Netflix' valuation was dependent on growth (as signalled by its' PE ratio). Basic cap

Do you mean cable television? To me, Netflix is the same to cable television as Spotify is to radio, so I'm not sure I see a big benefit of Spotify there.

Fiber was installed here, and they provide three tiers - 50Mb/s, 100 Mb/s and 1000 Mb/s, for 45, 50, and 55 euro each. We took the 100Mb/s. I have no idea what I would use 1 Gb/s for, using it as definition for broa

There is indeed about a 30% reduction in power usage when comparing trams to electric buses. https://bathtrams.uk/the-most-energy-efficient-mode-of-publi... Still, I feel that trams will be dying soon. The improved efficien

You still need tracks and power lines. If the only benefit of streetcars over buses is right-of-way, why not just give buses right of way. After some deliberation, my muncipality recently decided against a streetcar-system and for a bus-bas

Interesting, that is also not the case in the Netherlands. I've never been able to specify the limit, which was recently increased nationwide from 125 euro to 200 euro.

I only get gas from an unmanned gas station, as it is close to my house and the cheapest option. For someone living paycheck to paycheck, price is especially important, and this approach does not work.

Accepting is different than celebrating. I disagree that it's part of the zeitgeist. The zeitgeist is that you and your life have to be perfect, because that is the image you get from everyone on social media.

Note that the Tesla Powerwall is already quite heavy: 97 kg (250 lb). A sodium based battery will double that, which would make the logistics of transport and installation harder. So weight is not totally irrelevant for home storage.
