Is it normal to rely on this many external services when running a site? I'm obviously novice here, but my NIH syndromes kicks in, and I'd feel nervous if I had to deal with this many companies by myself alone.

Remember that a large corporation often acts schizophrenicly, because there are so many decision making bodies that have conflicting interests within the company. (I took this comment from someone else on HN a while ago)

So you're saying wealth is actually something like happiness? Then I can see it can be created, but I thought he was talking about something materialistic.

I think I'm very late at the party, but anyway I'm hoping that someone educate me. I still can't agree with PG in that wealth is something that can be created. When a woodworker makes a chair to get money, he's merely tr

I tend to think that making a good UI is like writing a good technical document or good presentation slides. We should think UI as a kind of natural language. There could be some subjective guidelines, but I don't think there will ever

I tend to rely on the Apple's UI guidelines. They have many hints that are applicable even for non-Apple apps. I remember Apple had a similar thing already back in 80s, which I found amazing. https://developer.apple.com/

As a professional, I tend to think a distinct coding style is bad. You should try to write a code that is plain and unsurprising and reproducible. To me, this study gives us another reason that we need a more uniform/standardized metho

Search YouTube with keywords like "KFC クリスマス" and you'll see a whole bunch of Japanese KFC commercials for Christmas.

I like Python3 personally. It's new and better but a different branch . I'm annoyed by people abbreviating it as "Python" and treating it as a substitute for Python2. In my opinion, the "Python" name should be

Ha, ha. What a dystopian country. Except, wait, this is the very country I've been living for decades. Where to start with? First, the language. The translation of the common phrase, "Otsukare sama desu" isn't "you

So, as an average citizen in the country, what should I do? I'm just a tech geek guy. I write software at work, and I teach sometimes (for CS related topics). I write OSS. I occasionally write a blog, but feel terribly helpless for spr

Thankfully, an increasing number of young people here in Japan start thinking that committing a suicide is one of the most cowardly and irresponsible ways to settle issues. Some older generations still might like the idea of "atonement

Contrary to a popular belief, excessive use of washlet is actually bad for a certain type of hemorrhoids. I've been always creeped out with the washlets and warm seats since the day it's introduced (like three decades ago).

I think the message is mostly directed at developers. It's worth noting that a developer's PC is often a very good target. It carries a lot of power, i.e. source codes, host names and private keys, etc. So even the number is small

It's worth noting that the term ブラック企業 is now a kind of buzzword and a general slander that carries little meaning. I can see why people like using it because the sound it makes in Japanese is mildly shocking and tarnishing.
