I just don't loan money. If someone asks for a loan, I either give it to them outright, or I say no. Money I can't afford to give away is money I probably shouldn't be loaning out. Usually, people pay me back, and it's a

"Everyone" is doing a lot of work in that sentence, but I think the fact the gap lessens significantly for unmarried, childless women speaks to that. When given a choice, many women do chose to work more hours.

It's almost like it's more complicated than just "regulation".

I've noticed an absolutely fantastic increase in the number of my employees who just refuse to work beyond 40 hours without compensation. Many refuse to do it even with compensation. It used to be I had like 1 dev who was that way. He

> You could just as well say that men shoulder an unequal amount of wage earning responsibilities. You could say that, but I think most people would raise their eyebrow at you.

This is part of the problem with this topic: neither side talks honestly about the effect, and both sides collapse the nuances down to easily defeated straw men. The "wage gap" has never been attributed, by any study, soley to the

Linux is a great environment if you just write code and use web apps. It quickly becomes subpar once you have to use commercial applications, and can be a massive productivity drain after an update breaks some core feature of your hardware.

I forget where I read it, but whenever I think of lenders in this situation I remember the quote, "When you owe the bank 10$, that's your problem. When you owe the bank a million dollars, that's the bank's problem."

It's unreasonable, in that it's a standard that can (likely) ever be met. When it comes to the state, I believe the reason we require such broad free speech protections is precisely because perfection can never be attained, and th

I generally agree. A lot of outrage, especially online outrage, reads to me like people finding things for the first time and being shocked by it. Even when those things are incredibly routine, or dictated by a well-intentioned law.

I worry, but also remember that much of the pandemic was just a replay of the Spanish Flu. Distrust in masking, distrust in vaccines, a complaint about the "media" keeping "the truth" from the public.

I'd argue both are horrible trade-offs and can be somewhat lessened with better regulations. A person must have the right to chose the terms of their own existence. A person shouldn't be pressured into that choice due to costs.
