I would love to hear how these were all patched. Wrap everything in a transaction? Use some kind of MQ? Make sure these critical DB calls are not cached in any way? I'm sure it's different for each case.

Not at all. I plan on buying and playing the game. I just think they could treat the subject matter with a bit more respect -- at least cut out the dubstep -- without ruining the fun.

I would pay so much money to watch a version of John Oliver that presented a conservative viewpoint without the xenophobia, bigotry, etc. But I guess that would be a libertarian John Oliver then.

The evangelical Christian concept of "abundant life" is already an attempt to monetize the religious imperative of tithing. It's the "prosperity gospel": give us money and God will make you rich. I say this as an ev

To me, it's just that text editing becomes way more efficient when you can accomplish everything without reaching for the mouse. The great thing about Vi (and I presume Emacs as well) is that you can get keybindings for just about any

Do you know if this allows consolidation of multiple copies of the same resource from different hosts?

Better idea would be to reference it via cryptographic signature. Then you could host your own copy of lodash for example, but still benefit if a client already has it downloaded from a different site.

Grandparent is 100% correct. Not sure why you brought up games to defend GC... we are the worst possible scenario for GC, barring the space shuttle. On my recently shipped C# game, I spent a ton of time writing custom memory management and

This is way better for e.g. my mother's use case. It's horrible for power users. I would be fine with this if Apple introduced some kind of "power user shell". I kind of do this already (on Win, Mac, and Linux) by almost

This reminds me of that Netflix talk on React [1]. In it, the guy first praises React to the heavens, then spends the rest of the session explaining all the ways they had to disable and work around React to get what they wanted with decent

I was using the term to refer to a very thin-soled sandal. I might be using it incorrectly. "Sandal" to me evokes a 2-inch thick chunk of plastic with giant velcro straps.

As a minimalist runner, this comment seems all wrong to me. If we grew up barefoot or wearing huaraches, we wouldn't have to "learn" how to forefoot strike. Thick-soled shoes mess up our running instincts. > Running requir

I know it's an area of some debate, but at least to me, greenlets are easier to write and understand than callbacks, by an order of magnitude. Greenlets work especially well with Python's "with" statement. You can have a

I think just the opposite - most of my software runs on Linux, but hardware is the main obstacle. I've installed Linux many times on desktops and laptops, and I have yet to simply install a graphics driver and have it work first try. M
