You’ve explained what I was going to say clearly. Mark has worked on more than just threewords.me for the past couple of years. He’s not some guy that just got lucky with a simple idea and cashed in.

I haven’t finished the book yet but the chapter where he discusses the effects of cold temperatures on the body was the most interesting to me, being a Canadian. But I’ll skip the cold showers and ice baths. I get my share of shivering by j

I was in a similar position a year ago: was a web/UI designer at a locally-reputable company, but left after three years due to frustration and the cabal games being played between my department and Marketing + VPs. I worked at a startup be

I’ve been using the Graphite appearance for OSX and using a neutral grey background as my desktop for a while now—I don’t keep stuff on my desktop either. Really helps dull out the noise around my windows when using the monitor (I prefer no

Anything I rate 4 stars or higher in my library I usually play while working. These tend to be songs I’ve listened to a lot so I don’t think about them much while they are playing, a good thing when trying to focus (for this reason I avoid

If I don’t see myself finishing an online article in one reading, I’ll just Instapaper it and carry on with my Kindle, where it will save where I’ve left off.

Both? Many books have coding exercises in them and I find it very difficult personally to retain all the knowledge I’ve glanced over in a book and be able to apply that in execution without having done any coding in-between.

Agreed on both points. The reason I don’t pirate much (more on that later) is because I value my time and the time other creators put into their work. Even if said work may be shitty, that doesn’t give me the right to steal it. A creator st

I think you’re overlooking the potential rewards that such a “loser thing to do” can have. There can be quite a bit of overlap between a like-minded gaming community and Hacker News. It may not be possible to accomplish all of the things yo

I haven't tried the GM seed but I'm hoping for some under-the-hood tweaks for iPod touch, specifically an option for disabling wifi while it's sleep mode (kept on in iOS 4). Waste of battery and useless to me since I've turned off all Push

If this is working for you, just keep at it. The problem I have with systems like pomodoro or anything that “forces” you to put leisure time in-between times of focus is that, for me, it’s difficult to get into the zone when you’re switchin

If a fresh idea is keeping me up, I just get out of bed and write it down, knowing I can’t really act on it in a tired state – leave it for the next day. If I just can’t sleep for other reasons, I usually read a book. Within 20 minutes or s
