What does leaving the sandbox mean when implementing an FPGA? I'm not aware of any soft resource one can't completely control in Vivado/Xilinx as every hard resource can be completely described in your own design via the prim

This may have been the case when this article was written but I don’t think it’s the case now. Many universities have graduate and undergraduate computational science programs now. https://www.siam.org/Students-Education&#x

Of any kind... I think the uA741 is about as open as any IC design can possibly be at this point. Still available from many places. Here is one. http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/ua741.pdf

There are many writing apps available, for example Microsoft Word free edition. One does not have to compose in a text box. Use the app to write it then copy and paste the result.

Google has that luxury because they make their money on ads. If their primary source of revenue was selling a database product (like say oracle) then there may have been a different decision made there.

What in the EDA industry is preventing this? Every CAD system I know of supports ways of group circuits into modules and libraries for multiple Instantation. And those libraries are distributable.

What even is this project? There are no details on the DARPA page either. Is it for PCB design, ASIC design or both? Is a constant current source also considered a “small chip” or just digital designs? Basically every EDA tool already has

Although they don’t have 20MHz of bandwidth and the necessary sample rate there are USB3 power delivery controllers on the market today which do exactly that. Some even embed the microcontroller too.

I was thinking the same thing. The equivalent of a power factor conversion stage at input makes this type of attack impossible unless they have access inside the product.
