Isn’t coping associated with denial? An IMO better term is acceptance (of things that are outside one’s control).

I think "pragmatic choice" is the keyword here. When working on a general renderer for a general game engine, lighting is a much tougher problem than when working on a specialized renderer for a specialized game engine, where an a

There are extensions that do this, e.g. Timescaledb with its column-oriented data (delta delta rle for integers, gorilla for reals, dictionary for others).

Curiously this standardized on utf8 already. Was it mainstream by 1997? I found a web UI here with many databases. But not all databases seem to be selected by default, e.g. one first has to pick the right one to get a result for a Japanese

If x is a huge number, then elimination can happen. Floating point numbers store a mantissa and an exponent, m^e. When you have a huge number the exponent will be large. So the mantissa can not express the tiny number anymore.

It seems more practical to use BSD’s approach of pledging once in main that the process won’t access the network. Parts of the program that need different capabilities are isolated in their own processes and communicated with using IPC. I d

What a poor attempt at causing a false choice logical fallacy. Drunk drivers are some of the most hated people in society. Obesity can occur without own responsibility or at least be much more difficult to deal with for some people. It also

In C/++ land the implicit buffering causes all kinds of confusion among beginners and veterans alike. From “why does this not print” to “why is the performance so bad in multithreaded programs”. In practice people avoid C and C++ I

Multiple of your “senior” developers didn’t catch this in a “senior” developer’s PR? Have they ever read any of the IO documentation, since this is pointed out literally everywhere in the docs? https://doc.rust-lang.org/std&

If that’s the case, then why do all installers install dependencies such as one of the many C++ or C# runtimes, current DirectX, etc? They also bring along all of their DLLs. So this doesn’t ring true.

I also implemented MQTT for industrial machines to publish data to a broker. It was trivial to create a web UI that subscribed to that broker via MQTT over Websockets. But I noticed that colleagues had this impression that MQTT cannot be us

I’m confused. Just because you use request response doesn’t mean you don’t have state in your page. And sure, your connection can drop, but your requests can also fail. Protocol versioning is required, but that is true for any protocol ever

I assume one could send a patch to those crates that defines “use core::” instead of “use std::” by using the compile time config directive to check whether the std is enabled?

Depends on your scheduling runtime. In Rust you can schedule everything to a single thread or to multiple threads. That could change the correctness of your asynchronous code or at least make certain bugs non-deterministic

Yeah I know, but I think the gp is thinking of nasty debugging sessions that come from parallelism, not concurrency. Concurrency issues one can step through with a debugger on a single thread.

Frontend or backend js? Because in the frontend everything is just scheduled to a single thread, so you only deal with concurrency, not parallelism.
