I always liked this idea of a "ruleless, diceless RPG". I was always too lazy to read the RPG manuals, I didn't necessarily like the Tolkien universe, and I never liked randomness in battle outcomes. So the only way you could

There doesn't need to be a merge. Just pick the most promising version and edit it to create a new version. The old version sticks around. An add-only data structure.

An alternative is to eschew conflict resolution altogether, and have various edits co-exist. That would basically be like the fork model on GitHub. The main issue then is how to help the user choose between competing edits. That's wher

I hope this question is relevant enough to the thread to ask here: what language did the people of Turkey, and by extension most of the Turkic-speaking countries, speak before the Mongolian invasion? Are there traces of that former language

I just implemented the reading quiz idea this term, and I thought that it went really well. Give the students a manageable chunk of reading material (in my case, the material came from various sources, not a single textbook), and give them

I love this. It has a Back to Basics, no BS approach to CS that appeals to me. I agree with all the recommendations. A couple of tiny comments: - I know that learning C is not strictly speaking part of Computer Science, but it is a nice cou

Healthcare definitely seems like the land of process inefficiency, even in developed countries like here in Canada, so there's plenty of opportunity for major improvement. There's still plenty of paperwork done on... paper, inform

Universities would seem like a good target market to me. There's privacy requirements (student grades shouldn't leave the premises!), there's a need for fine-grained access control, there's a need for easy to use file sh

I had the same experience as the OP. My Mac Mini was getting old, and the fan was making a worrisome noise. I wasn't going to buy the "latest" Mini, since it is very stale, hard to upgrade and expensive for what it is. Funnil

IMO it's better to just plot the two distributions that you want to compare so that people can eyeball the difference (or run the statistical tests themselves should they wish to do so). For one thing not all distributions are Gaussian
