What's nice with BASIC is that no context is required from the programmer: you don't need to know about the call stack or about variable scope. It's the programming equivalent of WYSIWYG. It also doesn't hurt that BASIC

It seems that AI does well when the problem and the performance metrics are well defined: chess, Go, various scheduling problems, pattern recognition, etc. At the very least we can track, quantitatively, how far off we are from a satisfacto

Would be interesting doing the same exercise for Java as well. We've been through Hashtable, HashMap, basic for loops, Enumeration, Iterator, foreach loops, generics, and now we have lambdas.

When I think of Wah-Wah in the late 80's I think of "What I Am" by Edie Brickell and New Bohemians: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDl3bdE3YQA The little solo in there uses it in a very melodic way.

Noob question: say I have $1000 that I want to invest in oil (not in an oil company, but in the commodity itself). How do I go about it? Judging by the article, buying actual oil isn't the way to go.

Yeah, I was just rephrasing PG's argument for the OP, not saying whether it was right or wrong. I'm not smart enough to know.

The argument is that First Round Capital must have implictly made it harder for female founders to get funding, since the ones who do perform better. The rational course of action for First Round Capital would be to lower their threshold on

Then, if I understand PG's argument correctly, the VCs should invest in even more startups-with-women, and lower their threshold on investing them, at least until they perform no better than startups-without-women.

Could this be done using Twitter? Each reporter/citizen who has an update on a news item would post a tweet with the info, and create a link back to the original news item(s) or the one(s) that needed updating. Hashtags would be used t
