Selling at a loss works when every game costs 50 dollars.. for 1/2 dollar apps, it's a much harder ladder. I hope that's the case, though, bcse I still love Palm, and would love to see WebOS succeed.

"beautiful" sql is subjective. What does it mean? SQL that looks pretty to the eye (with proper indentation)? Or is it SQL that can run on dozens of different database servers with no modifications? Or is it SQL that can be automatically ge

Just because you have an example of a probably poorly designed, over-engineered system that could be completely replaced with some hand written SQL code, doesn't mean that is the best solution for everything. Come back when you have an exam

I agree with what you said about developers understanding what does on under the curtains, but regarding the NewRelic statement, I couldn't disagree more with this. Spending time early on in the project on things that don't matter and that

What? So you think Java is not expressive enough for business logic, and you think it's better to move that logic to PLSQL? Seriously? Java may not be the best language for some things, and that's why you use DSLs, but moving that to the pl

the big problem is that it makes refactoring and changing logic much harder, as you now two different places to maintain business logic. In my experience, most problems that DBAs would like to use SPs for can be easily solved by refactoring

You always hear this from somebody who is new to ORMs, spends 3 months working on a project, and then is amazed because he doesn't like one thing or another in the file. It'll be funny when he discovers that with just a few other lines of c

I agreed with you until the point that you said to replace things with stored procedures and in-memory tables. Having the two different contexts for logic, code and SPs makes things a thousand times harder to debug and maintain, making the

Right now, all you have to do is modify your root element as you wish, and then call the reloadData on the tableView. That will show the new table automatically, although it won't show a nice animation that somebody would expect. Adding thi

You're right.. but from previous experience, apple doesn't usually do a lot more than 5 or so beta builds. Still, its not like I'm doing more work anyway, going with ARC saved time on development. If Apple ends up never releasing 4.2, I wou

Personally, I thing XCode sucks, either 3x or 4x. It's a really bad environment, I can't see how people use it or like it. Have you tried AppCode, from JetBrains? Its still in beta, but its magnificent.

Not for long though, 4.2 is just around the corner. I can't see them doing too many extra betas before releasing it. By the time you develop your app with this library 4.2 is probably going to be released anyway.

Thanks Marco. For now, I'm not really looking into doing manual memory management, as I don't have any need for it, but you're more than welcome to fork out the code and add it if you would like.

Without disclosing too much, ARC has its quirks, but it works. Anything is better than manual release/retains.

Thanks Drew, I would love to have people using the library for months or years to come. I'm sure I'll still be using it. :)

Thanks Chubs! Adding retain/releases into the codebase wouldn't be too hard to do, but I created this for some new projects which won't be ready for another couple of months anyway, so by then 4.2 is going to be released already.

I'm not really moving out of the tableview delegate. There's still a QuickDialogTableViewDelegate class that does the cellForRowAtIndexPath work you mentioned, and you can still override that if you would like. In my view, having the view

I can talk a little about this, I too have a bunch of apps in the appstore using MonoTouch (like Quicklytics, githubby, and a bunch of other ones for clients). Performance of monotouch is extremely good. For 99% of what you're doing, you do

My guess is it simply takes a lot of time/money to get IP issues solved, which the mono guys don't have.. they would rather rebuild it than wait indefinitely for those things to be resolved.

They already offer a free version that you can use to try out the platform before you commit to purchase it, so I don't see what giving refunds would solve.

This article could just as well be in a dictionary, defining the word "FUD". There was a time when Microsoft was the one doing FUD.. People should read a little before writing these stupid posts. Saying that we shouldn't have mono because i
