Sure, here's a screenshot: http://jsreports.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/conditi... This does conditional formatting for a report designer. We thought a lot about how to limit the compl

Pretty cool. Coincidentally I just spent the last couple days implementing configurable JSON-serialized rules in our app. The bigger part of the challenge for us was coming up with a human-friendly UI for defining the rules.

One of the few books I kept when I left school was a reference manual called ANSI Common Lisp from Russell's CS 289. There was something special about the author's writing - not only did he clearly "get it," he was able

I'd keep it simple, pick an hourly rate that works for you, and just bill the initial meeting at that rate. Get them to agree to the rate informally before you pass around any paperwork. Don't write your own contract, use a stan

I disagree with this. You can get rid of bad hires easily. A single great engineer can transform your entire business.

I think a sign on the 101 might be better for advertising to acquirers than to end users.

Looks cool. Playfair didn't load for me so the headings looked a bit plain, and the +2px spacing on Rubik looked weird to me. There was also a full-screen yellow pause while something loaded the first time. I like it.

Netflix pays reasonably well. You can also get that at some of the bigger name SF companies, or as a consultant.

The startup doesn't sound that attractive to me, but if you take it, I think you should get either a much higher salary or way more equity.

I think it's pretty clear. It seems a little like Segment / Sentry. There's definitely a need for this type of product. The live demo is cool, although it was a little slow for me. Looks good overall.

Yes, (in my view) you can have race conditions any time asychronous operations (like network requests) finishing in different orders results in unexpected state. You don't get the specific type of race condition caused by interleaved

It seems like the first question to ask is, where is the query planner falling down? What are you finding in those EXPLAIN ANALYZEs that is wrong? When you say "that isn't the way it seems to want to allocate resources," wh

How would you do playback and automatic undo/redo without encapsulating your state transitions?

I think it's as simple as some people (like me) just enjoy having dogs around in an office. I doubt it's much more convenient for the owners, but I bet they like having their dogs around.

The opportunities are transition points, not isolated events. Like moving from 100k/yr salary to 400k or whatever. OP is saying (in my understanding) that the bulk of your outcome will be determined by the magnitude of those transiti

If it's not possible to do a few big queries to pull all the necessary base data (all the related Ys and Zs for the last 10,000 Xs) and then join/filter it yourself in code, then I think you are stuck with many queries. The optio

That volume of data should be handled pretty easily by the right indexes and joins. At one place with that order of magnitude of data we kept an offline synced clone of the data with indexes designed for the queries we needed to run (this

I doubt it's worth your time to do this, but it depends on who (and where) the customer is. I'd leave this up to the legal agreement and consider part of the (high) price tag to be compensating you for the (low) likelihood of wro

In addition to which, of those 100, some of the ones with the strongest incentive to crack factoring work for places with a strong disincentive to publish their results. EDIT: Missed the sentence in the article where this is hinted at.
