I don't think anyone is saying what the kid did was moral, or that he didn't do anything wrong. The point is though, 1) He didn't commit a crime in the UK. There was no law forbidding him to do these things. Rightly so? Maybe not. Does it m

xp had this concept too, it was just disabled by default. In fact, I remember it being enabled by default in windows 98. My memory may be tricking me.

That's okay. I don't think I'm really representative anyway, as I'm not a professional/schooled programmer. Thanks for the link, I did try googling it myself but I didn't think to use the word "currency" so I just got a bunch of irrelevant

What's wrong with storing it as a float? I'm not saying you're wrong, I just genuinely don't know. If you could explain/point me to relevant literature I'd be grateful.

You will find it's not just the why, but also the how. Again, to put it in terms of a racial equivalent to make the point more clear, if I use a racial slur against somebody because they're pissing me off, I'm not insulting them/making fun

Okay, sorry. Yeah obviously layouts will work, if you make them work. But that's the point, you have to make them work. IE has a weird box model, haslayout, buggy float handling, etc. Of course it's possible to make things work, in case of

Interesting that in a conflict involving only men, somehow there's still a cheap image of an unattractive woman being tossed around by the Oatmeal. Feels kind of mysoginistic. Would the image have the same effect if it was a man? Doubt it.

This all sounds nice and reasonable, until you realize that these companies have to pay people to actually make it work in a browser that's 10 years old. Their website is a product, and they can choose who to offer it to. This is like compl

Weird, because every now and again my Macbook will just die after waking up. I also find that while initially it was really fast and worked great, it's now really slow and takes up to 10 seconds, while my linux laptop (which doesn't even ha

not sure about LLVM/Clang, but they based webkit on KHTML, leaving them no choice but to open source it. Apple does good for open source (CUPS being another example), but make no mistake: they're not doing it to be charitable

FWIW i signed up to your udemy course, but I don't particularly feel like making a disqus account to also comment on the book, that's what's bothering me. I guess I will just abstain from commenting though, it's fair enough.

Are guest comments ever going to be an option? I don't really want to make a disqus account. I understand if not, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

I always wondered why people don't just use rainbow tables to get all the raw passwords, and then hash them with the better algorithm. The ones that are left, you just change upon login.

I agree the fact that it's very hotly debated in the US is part of what makes the US such an infamous example of this irrationality, but I would say the fact that the US is a scientifically advanced first world country definitely also contr

I have a reprap huxley, bought from reprappro. You have to assemble it yourself, but the instructions are very detailed. It's really high quality and makes beautiful prints. I can only recommend it. The downside is that it's located in Euro

just use a couple of shitty passwords for sites you don't care about, and remember the other ones. E.g. my hacker news account would probably be relatively unproblematic to compromise. If that were to happen, I'd just make a new one though.
